Suspect to Identify

The Sarnia Police Service is asking for assistance to identify a suspect involved in a gas theft.

On June 25, 2015, just before 11:00a.m., the female depicted in the attached surveillance video pumped gas into a car at a gas station located on DeGurse Drive. The female was a passenger in the car and no one in the car made an attempt to pay for the purchase. The license plate which is visible in the video had been reported as being stolen from a vehicle in Sarnia. It was also discovered that Lambton O.P.P. had been involved in a short pursuit with this vehicle, but called off the pursuit in the interest of public safety.

Update: Homicide

The Sarnia Police Service continues with the investigation related to the July 24, 2015 homicide on Ontario Street.

The 17 year old male accused remains in custody awaiting a formal bail hearing. He faces charges including second degree murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and trafficking a controlled substance.

The 19 year old male victim died of a single stab wound. The second victim, a 22 year old male, was treated in a London Hospital for multiple stab wounds and released.

MVC – Jeep vs Cyclist

The Sarnia Police Service are investigating a motor vehicle collision which occurred on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at approximately 12:30 PM. It occurred near Colborne Road, at the exit of Northgate Plaza, just south of the 402 overpass.

A 34 year old female cyclist was travelling on the sidewalk when she was struck by a Jeep which was exiting the Northgate Plaza lot onto Colborne Road. The female cyclist was transported to Bluewater Health and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Youth Charged for Vandalism

The Sarnia Police Service Youth Branch has laid charges against a 14 year old male from Sarnia for numerous acts of vandalism.

The youth is accused of spray painting graffiti on motor vehicles, buildings and signs in Sarnia and the Village of Point Edward earlier this year. A Manley’s van parked on Kendall Street, a van parked at Bluewater Towing, the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club maintenance shed, Milk Marc Variety on Michigan Road., Co-operator’s on Lakeshore Road., Sarnia Arena, Bell Canada Building on Michigan Road and the scoreboard at the old St. Patrick’s High School were the places vandalized. The youth faces eight charges of mischief over $5000.00 and one count of mischief under $5000.00. He has been released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.

Update: Incident on Kathleen Avenue

The Sarnia Police Service continues to investigate a sudden death on Kathleen Avenue

Sarnia Police and Lambton EMS responded to the 200 block of Kathleen Avenue after a passerby discovered a male lying on the roadway around 5:30 a.m. July 31, 2015. The 55 year old Sarnia man was pronounced dead at the scene. Kathleen Avenue was blocked off for several hours while Criminal Investigations, Forensic Identification officers and the coroner investigated. The investigation is continuing and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Constable Sean Peters at 519-344-8861 extension 6197 or Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Break and Enter Foiled

Sarnia Police responded to a break and enter in progress at a residence on St. Laurent Street around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday July30, 2015.

An alert citizen walking their dog notified police who were able to apprehend the suspect in the driveway of the residence. The suspect had used a brick to smash a window to gain entry into the home.

The 21 year old accused, who is a Sarnia resident, is being held for a bail hearing and faces charges including break and enter, mischief to property, possession of a controlled substance and six counts of breach of probation.

This is another example of the community assisting the police service. Please report suspicious activity in your neighbourhood.

Ontario Police College Graduation

The Sarnia Police Service had its two newest recruits graduate from the Ontario Police College in Aylmer Ontario.

The graduation ceremony that included Constable Jason Priddle and Constable David Ferrera took place Thursday July 30, 2015.

The new officers will be reporting to their Coach Officers for several more months of training.

Motor Vehicle Collision at Vidal St. S. and Clifford

On August 5th, 2015 at approximately 10:15 pm Sarnia Police Service along with Sarnia Fire and Lambton EMS responded to a single MVC at the intersection of Vidal St. S. and Clifford St. in the City of Sarnia involving an ATV. A lone 42 year old male was located on the scene along with the ATV.

He was subsequently transported to the local hospital and from there transported to a London hospital where he is in critical condition currently.

The Sarnia Police Service Traffic Unit is still on scene and investigating the matter. The intersection of Vidal St. S. and Clifford St. is closed to south bound and west bound traffic and thus motorists are asked to stay away from the area and find alternate routes. The area will be closed for several more hours and police will advise when it re-opens.

Sexual Assault Investigation

On July 14, 2015, Lloyd William NAHDEE, of Walpole Island, was arrested and subsequently charged by the Sarnia Police Service with:

  • Administer a Noxious Substance
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Sexual Interference
  • Sexual Assault Cause Bodily Harm
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Invitation to Sexual Touching

These charges are in relation to an incident that occurred in Sarnia in the early part of July 2015.

On August 5, 2015 NAHDEE was released from Sarnia Court on a Recognizance of Bail. He has been ordered, in part, to abide by the following:

  • Not to have contact directly or indirectly with the victim.
  • Not to be in the company of or communicate, directly or indirectly, by any physical, electronic or other means with females under the age of 16 years, unless in the presence of a surety.
  • Not to attend a public park or public swimming area where persons under the age of 16 years are present or can reasonably be expected to be present, or a daycare centre, school ground, playground or community centre, except in the presence of one of his sureties.
  • Not to possess any weapons as defined by the Criminal Code.
  • Not to possess or consume any unlawful drugs or substances except with a valid prescription in his name.

 

 

NAHDEE’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 1, 2015.

Update Regarding Collision at Vidal St. S and Clifford St.

On August 5, 2015 at approximately 10:15 pm the Sarnia Police began an investigation regarding a 42 year old male found in the intersection of Clifford St. and Vidal St. S. in the City of Sarnia ejected from an ATV. The male was transported to London in critical condition on the Aug 5, 2015.

Unfortunately the 42 year old man passed away on August 6, 2015 at approximately 10:35 pm in London secondary to his injuries.

Arrest for Murder

Sarnia Police continue to investigate the death of Raynold Fisher, 42 of Sarnia. Mr. Fisher was found in an unconscious state on Wednesday the 5th of August 2015 on the roadway on Vidal St. around 10:15 p.m. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries in Victoria Hospital, London where he had been transferred in critical condition.

 

Sarnia Police received information that turned this into a suspicious death investigation, and on Saturday the 8th of August members of the Criminal Investigation Division assisted by the Emergency Response Team arrested an adult male for the murder of Mr. Fisher. The male is in police custody awaiting a bail hearing. Police continue to investigate and are asking any persons with information to call Detective Sergeant Leo Murphy at extension 6142, Detective Sergeant Dwayne Whelpley at extension 6151 or Detective Constable Mike Kahnert at extension 6197.

Impaired Driver Arrested

Date: August 10, 2015

Just after 1:00 a.m. on Sunday August 9, 2015 Sarnia Police received a call from a citizen about a car speeding on London Road. An officer was at London Road and Mitton Street at the time running radar and noted the car was travelling almost 40 kilometers over the speed limit. The vehicle was stopped and when the officer approached the 26 year old male driver the officer observed what he believed to be marihuana and that the driver had been drinking alcohol. The male was arrested and requested to provide a sample of his breath into a Roadside Screening Device. The sample indicated a fail and the man was transported to the Sarnia Police Station to provide further breath samples which indicated the man was one and a half times the legal limit to drive.

Dustin Matthews of Sarnia is charged with driving over the legal limit and possession of a controlled substance.

Homicide Update

Sarnia Police continue to investigate the death of Raynold Fisher, 42 years old of Sarnia. Mr. Fisher was found in an unconscious state on Wednesday August 5 2015 on the roadway on Vidal Street and Clifford Street around 10:15 p.m. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries in Victoria Hospital, London where he had been transferred in critical condition. The Sarnia Police Traffic Branch initially investigated the incident with assistance from the Criminal Investigations Branch.

The Sarnia Police Service received information from the public that turned the focus of the investigation from a traffic fatality to a homicide. On Saturday, August 8, 2015 members of the Criminal Investigation Division assisted by the Emergency Response Team arrested an adult male for the murder of Mr. Fisher.

Marshall Jay Scott Maness, 41 years old from Sarnia remains in custody charged with First Degree Murder.

Driver Gets Ticket for Taking Photo While Driving

Sarnia Police and Lambton EMS responded to a three vehicle collision on London Road near Superior Street Monday August 10, 2015 just after the 12:00 p.m. The three vehicles involved were all in the east bound lanes and traffic flow was restricted while officers investigated. One female was transported to Bluewater Health for minor injuries. A 39 year old female driver was issued a ticket for following too closely.

While another officer was at the scene assisting with traffic control he observed a 19 year old male drive by holding up a cellphone taking pictures of the collision scene. The young man was stopped and issued a ticket for driving while using a handheld device.

Road Closure August 18 for Legion Event

The Sarnia Police Service will be blocking traffic on Front Street on Tuesday August 18, 2015 between George Street and Derby Lane for the following event.

French students to pay tribute to 1st Hussars and veterans at Calamity Tank in downtown Sarnia.

SARNIA, Aug. 5, 2014/ – A delegation of 45 French students from the Westlake Brothers Souvenir Association (WBSA) based in Caen, Normandy, France will be visiting Sarnia and region on Tuesday, August 18, 2015. Their local visit is a part of a larger 25 day, multi-city Canadian tour to pay tribute to World War II veterans and remember those Canadians who fell in the liberation of France.

 

Date and Time: Tuesday, August 18, 2015 11:00-12:30 EDT. Service of Remembrance staged by the WBSA followed by media availability. Service will be conducted in both English and French.

Location: Calamity Tank monument, located beside the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62, 286 Front Street, Sarnia, ON N7T 5S7. Calamity is located parallel to Front Street.

About:

The 45 members of the Westlake Brothers Souvenir Association are youths ages 14-21 who live in the city of Caen, France and surrounding areas. Formed in 2006 by Caen history teacher Christophe Collet, the Westlake Brothers Souvenir Association is an entirely volunteer group of French youth dedicated to the Memory Project of preserving Canada’s historical legacy in the liberation of France in World War II. The group is named after the Westlake brothers of Weston (now Toronto), Ontario who were infamously murdered by the 12 SS Panzer Division following the battle Le Mesnil-Patry on June 11, 1944. The Westlake Brothers Souvenir Association has been recognized with great acclaim in both France and Canada for their efforts. Several of its young members have been awarded the French médaille de la jeunesse, des sports et de l’engagement associatif, the second highest civic award of distinction bestowed by the French Republic. The WBSA visit to southwestern Ontario is part of the group’s larger Canadian tour.

This marks the second time the WBSA has toured Canada, having last visited in 2011. The group will be hosted during their visit by the 1st Hussars Association; that latter of whom counts several D Day and Normandy campaign veterans among its members. The WBSA and 1st Hussars Regiment conduct an annual exchange between its student members and two serving soldiers. This is the WBSA’s first group visit to Sarnia.

Early Morning Collision

The Sarnia Police Service, Lambton EMS and Sarnia Fire and Rescue are at the scene of a motor vehicle collision on Churchill Line.

The call came in just after 6:30 a.m. and emergency services responded to a two vehicle collision on Churchill Line just west of Mandaumin Road. One person has been transported to Bluewater Health with unknown injuries at this time.

Churchill Line will be closed to traffic between Mandaumin Road and Waterworks Sideroad for several hours. Traffic Branch and Forensic Identification Branch are also on scene.

Please obey all road closure signs.

Update: Collision

Sarnia Police Traffic Branch officers continue the investigation of an early morning collision.

The collision occurred just after 6:30 a.m. today on Churchill Line west of Mandaumin Road and involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck. The 56 year old male operator of the motorcycle has been transported by air ambulance to a London Hospital in critical condition.

Churchill Road remains closed between Mandaumin Road and Waterworks Sideroad.
