The Sarnia Police Service is currently investigating a male party in custody involved in some north end break ins overnight.

The Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in trying to recover some stolen property that may have been dumped by the suspect or strategically hidden to be retrieved at a later time. If all North end residents can check there property for possible items left behind by the suspect involved, specifically the area North of Michigan, between Christina and Indian Rd. If anything is located please leave where it is found and notify police.

Suspect to Identify

The Sarnia Police Service is asking the public to assist in a theft investigation by helping to identify a suspect.

On Monday July 13, 2015 the suspect entered an underground parking area for an apartment complex on Sandy Lane near Canatara Park. The male suspect was seen on surveillance video as he entered a pick-up truck and removed fishing equipment valued at around $2,500.00. The incident took place between 2:30 a.m. and 2:45 a.m.

Domestic Violence Investigation

Sarnia Police Service Criminal Branch detectives are investigating a domestic dispute that resulted in injuries to a three month old child.

On August 18, 2015 between 1:00 a.m. and 3:30 am the 35 year old accused was involved in an argument with his 28 year old girlfriend who is the guardian of the infant. The accused allegedly held a pillow over her face and threatened her. During the incident a 3 month old child was injured and when uniform officers attended to investigate the child was transported to Bluewater Health. The child has since been moved to London Health Sciences with non-life threatening injuries.

The accused, who is from Sarnia, is in custody pending a bail hearing and faces charges including assault causing bodily harm, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and utter threats to cause death.

The Sarnia Police Service has received complaints from residents who have received calls asking for money to send children to camp. The caller advises they are from the police service and that payment can be made by credit card only. The Sarnia Police Service or any organization associated to them is not soliciting funds at this time.

Youth Faces Numerous Charges

Sarnia Police have charged a fourteen year old youth with numerous offenses.

The fourteen year old Sarnia male was currently on probation, deferred custody and bail when the latest incidents took place. At about 4:45 p.m. Thursday August 20, 2015 the youth was found in the Inn of the Good Shepherd building after closing time. When confronted by a staff member the youth produced a large knife and began approaching the staff member. The staff member was able to defend himself and with help from other staff they were able to subdue the youth and hold him until police arrived. Officers searched the youth and located items connecting the youth to a break in to a Brights Grove home where a vehicle had been stolen earlier that day.

The youth is in custody facing charges including five counts of probation, two counts of breach of bail, two counts of break and enter and assault with a weapon.

Shoplifter Faces Several Charges

Sarnia Police responded to a shoplifting call at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday night and arrested a 17 year old male youth for several offences. The youth was on probation and on bail conditions at the time. The youth was in a Wellington Street convenience store when he was observed stealing items in the store. The store staff confronted the youth and attempted to keep the youth in the store until police arrived. While officers were responding the youth assaulted the manager causing minor injuries. The manager did not require medical treatment.

The youth faces charges including four counts of breach of probation, breach of bail, theft under $5000.00 and assault.

Impaired Driver

Sarnia Police arrested an impaired driver Saturday evening.

On August 22, 2015 just after 5:00 p.m. officers were called to a collision on Exmouth Street near Trillium Park involving a pickup truck that collided with the rear end of a stopped vehicle. Officers spoke to the 49 year old driver of the pick-up truck and discovered evidence that resulted in him being arrested for impaired driving. The driver was brought to the Sarnia Police Station to obtain breath samples. The test indicated that the accused was almost twice the legal limit to drive.

John Pepper of Sarnia faces charges of impaired driving and driving while over the legal limit.

Weekend Break and Enters and Thefts

The Sarnia Police investigated numerous break and enters and thefts over the weekend.

The Sarnia Police Service responded to ten break and enters and seventeen thefts between Friday at 5:00p.m.to Monday at 7:00a.m. In most cases entry was gained through unlocked residence and garage doors. In two cases entry into attached garages was made after the culprits found unlocked vehicles in the driveway with the garage door openers assessable. The majority of the thefts reported were from unlocked vehicles with loose change and valuables left inside.

The Police Service reminds the public to lock vehicles and to remove all valuables regardless of where you park. Secure all home windows and doors including garage doors. Please report suspicious activity in your neighbourhood.

On Saturday 22, August 2015 just after 2:00 a.m. officers responded to a break in on Stoney Creek Drive.The homeowner told the responding officer they had seen a Jeep in the area. While the investigation was taking place police received a report of a stolen Jeep involved in a collision in the area of Trudeau Drive. Officers located the Jeep on Waterworks Side Road, however the occupants had fled into surrounding farm fields.

On Saturday August 22, 2015 at about 3:00 a.m. Sarnia Police were able to arrest a 34 year old male while he was breaking in to a garage. The incident took place in the 100 block of Lincoln Park Ave and was reported by a neighbor. The man is being held for a bail hearing and faces charges including break and enter, possession of break and enter tools, trespass at night and breach of probation.

Suspect to Identify

Sarnia Police are attempting to identify two suspects who committed a break and enter.

On Thursday August 20, 2015 two males entered a business compound in the 1400 block of Churchill Line in the City of Sarnia just before 8:00p.m.The suspects had arrived on bicycle and a short time later one suspect is seen leaving the property with the bicycles and the second suspect is seen leaving on a John Deere riding lawnmower. The suspects also took a gas powered grass clipper. The property taken is valued at approximately $2100.00.

Missing Man

The Sarnia Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance to locate a missing man.

Kent JENNINGS has not been seen since May 1, 2015 in Sarnia. Kent rented a van in Sarnia that day and was heading to see a brother in the Burlington area and then heading onto Ottawa. Kent never met the family member and the van was not returned to the rental car company in Ottawa. Kent is 42 years old and is described as being six feet tall and about 150 pounds. The vehicle he rented is a Grey 2015 Dodge Caravan with Illinois license plate E169508.

Impaired Driver

Sarnia Police officers arrested a man in the 700 block of Bond Street early today for impaired care and control of a vehicle.

Just after 1:00 a.m. officers responded to a call stating there was a car in a driveway and the engine was revving. Upon arrival the officers found a 69 year old man asleep behind the wheel of a SUVwith the engine running and revving. The vehicle was turned off and the man woken up at which time officers determined the man had consumed alcohol. He was arrested and brought to the police station to provide samples of his breath. Breath test determined he was twice the legal limit.

Pietro Catenacci faces charges of care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired and having care and control while over the legal limit.

Drug Warrant Executed

The Sarnia Police Vice Unit, along with uniformed officers, executed a drug search warrant at an apartment on Canterbury Court earlier today. The apartment was entered at about 12:30 am and three adults were arrested inside. The search of the apartment revealed approximately 155 grams of methamphetamine valued at about $18,600.00, a small amount of marihuana, 15 grams of cocaine valued at $1500.00, and over $1250.00 cash. Officers also found three youth between the ages of 1 and 17 years of age that were related to the two female accused inside the apartment

The 28 year old female who rents the apartment is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

A 45 year female from Sarnia is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of breaching bail conditions.

A 27 year old male from Petrolia faces two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

All three people are being held for a bail hearing later today.

Confederation Street Collision

Sarnia Police, Sarnia Fire and Rescue along with Lambton EMS responded to a two vehicle collision just before 9:00a.m. today.

The collision occurred as an SUV travelling westbound on Confederation Street was making a left turn onto McGregor Road and collided with an eastbound vehicle. The SUV making the turn was flipped onto its roof as a result of the collision. The 25 female driver of the SUV was transported to Bluewater Health with minor injuries. The four occupants in the other vehicle, two adults and two boys aged 9 and 7 years, were also transported to Blue water Health with minor injuries. All five people have been treated and released from the hospital. The 25 year old female has been charged with making an unsafe turn.

Police Arrest Male for Failing to Stop

On Friday August 28, 2015 just before 3:30 p.m. members of the Sarnia Police C.O.P.P.S Unit noticed a white GMC pickup truck on Mitton Street with improper plates. The truck had two different plates belonging to two different people displayed. The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however the male driver would not pull over. The pursuit continued in the area of Talfourd, Vidal and Campbell Streets before heading south on Indian Road. The truck was followed until it reached Lasalle Line before being called off in the interest of public safety. Speeds were estimated to have reached 90 km/hr at times. The pickup truck was later found abandoned on Afton Court in the city .On Sunday August 30, 2015 around 8:30 p.m. Uniform Patrol officers arrested the 22 year old male driver .The driver is being held for a bail hearing and faces charges including dangerous driving, evading police and breach of his probation

Impaired Driver

On Saturday, August 29, 2015 at about 3:30 a.m. a Sarnia Police officer was waved down by a citizen reporting a possible impaired driver.

The officer located the vehicle, a Chevrolet pickup truck, on Exmouth Street near Lambton Mall Road. The truck engine was running and the 45 year old male driver appeared to be sleeping. The man was eventually woken up and once outside the vehicle he was arrested for care and control of a vehicle while impaired. The man was taken to the police station to provide breath samples which indicated he was almost twice the legal limit to drive.

Yung-Wang Jemmy Kao faces charges of having care or control of a motor vehicle while impaired and exceeding the legal limit.

Germain Park Break In

The Sarnia Police Service is investigating a break and enter to the field house at Germain Park.

Sometime between Wednesday August 26, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. and Thursday August 27, 2015 at 6:30 a.m. the field house at the east end of the park was broken into. The person or persons responsible first cut the electrical power to the building then forced their way through a west facing window. Once inside the field house they removed a quantity of cash from the concession area. This money is raised through concession sales to help fund youth sports programs.

Large Vessel Move

The Sarnia Police Service would like to advise the citizens of Sarnia that on September 3, 2015 Pioneer Heavy Haul Inc. will be transporting a very large vessel through the city of Sarnia to its final destination at Stryolution located on Huron St.

Due to the size of the vessel, a number of roads will be shut down during the move. Also, a number of utility companies such as Bluewater Power and Cogeco Cable will be involved with the transport along with the police.

The move will take the following route: Seaway Rd to Harbour Rd to Exmouth St to Front St. to Johnson St. to Christina St. to St. Andrews to Churchill Rd to Vidal St. to Huron St where it will come to its final destination.

The move will commence at 8:00 AM and it is unknown how long the move will take but it is expected to take the better part of the work day.

We are please asking motorists to avoid the above mentioned route so that they are not delayed nor cause any traffic issues. The Sarnia Police Service would like to thank all in advance for their co-operation in this matter.
