Drug Warrant Executed

Sarnia Police Service Vice officers executed a drug warrant in the 500 block of Cardiff Drive Friday night.

On Friday April 25, 2014 shortly before 6:00 PM officers entered the home as the residents were leaving. Officers located Fentanyl, marihuana and LSD within the residence. The officers also located a set of brass knuckles, a canister of Mace and a loaded sawed off shotgun/.22 caliber over under firearm. A 26 year old female and a 34 year old man were taken into custody.

The female faces 11 charges related to Drug Possession and Weapons offences. The man faces 15 charges related to Drug Possession, Weapons Offences as well as Bail Violations.

Interestingly, the female accused was acting as the accused man’s surety in a matter before the courts.

Break and Enter

Sarnia Police Service patrol officers responded to a break and enter in progress last night shortly before midnight. Officers responded to a 911 call of someone breaking into a garage on Gordon Street. The 47 year old man ran as police arrived and a foot chase through backyards ensued. An officer located the man cowering behind some bushes in a back yard and he was arrested. The man, who initially refused to identify himself, has been charged with Break and Enter, Trespass by Night and Breaching Bail Conditions. He is being held for a Bail Hearing.

Assault

Just after 4:00 PM on Monday April 28, 2014 officers were called to an address on Wellington Street to investigate an assault. The 21 year old accused man was having an argument with his mother when another male present expressed his displeasure with the way the accused was treating her. The two men began arguing and the confrontation became physical. The accused then grabbed a knife block and threw it at the victim; he then grabbed a stool and threw that at the victim before getting a knife and chasing the victim. The victim ran from the house and called police.

The accused also came outside and flattened a tire on a car belonging to the victim. The accused then picked up his own bicycle and threw it at the victim’s car and then at the victim. The accused then left on his bicycle and was arrested a short distance away.

The accused is being held pending a Bail Hearing and faces four counts of Assault with a Weapon, one count Assault, one count Uttering Threats, one count Weapons Dangerous and Mischief.

Arson Investigation

On April 28, 2014 just before 11:00 PM Sarnia Police Service and Sarnia Fire and Rescue responded to a garage fire in the 100 block of Queen Street. Investigation shows that the probable cause is arson. Two males described as having slim builds, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing dark hoodies were seen walking up the driveway towards the garage just prior to the fire being noticed. One of the males was smoking a cigarette. Sarnia Fire and Rescue had also responded to a grass fire in the area earlier in the evening.

There is no estimate of damage at this time.

Shoplifters Arrested

Sarnia Police Service arrested and charged a brother and sister with several offences related to a shoplifting incident last night.

Around 7:30 PM, on Tuesday April 29,2014, a 19 year old female and her 18 year old brother were observed in the Lambton Mall along with a another young lady. Security watched as the brother and sister entered a store within the mall .Inside the store they were seen concealing clothing items from the store. As the female walked out of the store she was arrested by security for the theft. The female, now under arrest, began yelling to let her go. The female’s brother then ran from the store and pushed the security member allowing his sister to flee.

Upon police arrival the brother was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5000.00, Assault and Failing to Comply with a Probation Order.

The sister was located and arrested just before 1:00 AM April 30, 2014. She will be charged with Theft Under $5000.00 and Escape Lawful Custody.

Both people were released and will appear in court at a later date. The third person was not involved.

Canatara Park Driving Complaints

Recently there have been public complaints about supped up pick-up trucks racing, squealing tires and driving over embankments at Canatara Park.

On April 20, 2014, police conducted surveillance in the park. Two pick-up trucks were observed entering the park. The trucks were heard revving engines and observed to be travelling around the parking lot at high rate of speed and fish tailing around corners.

As a result of police enforcement, two drivers, 21 and 22 year old males, were charged with stunt driving. This resulted in their driver’s license’s being suspended for seven days and their vehicles impounded for seven days.

Taxi Driver and Officer Assaulted.

Just after 2:00AM this morning, May 2, 2014, a taxi driver arrived in the area of Netherlands Place to pick up a fare. The driver was met by a distraught woman and a belligerent 26 year old man. The man began punching the side window of the cab breaking it. He then punched the driver and told him to leave. As the taxi driver drove away the man chased after him and caused more damage to the vehicle.

Police were called and located the man arguing with the female in a residence. The man was told he was under arrest, but refused to cooperate with the officer. A struggle ensued and the man kicked one of the arresting officers in the face.

The man faces charges of Assault, Mischief to Property, Resist Arrest and Assault a Police Officer. He will appear for a Bail Hearing. The officer was able to return to duty.

Drug Warrant

Sarnia Vice officers assisted by Uniform Patrol executed a drug warrant on Afton Court yesterday.

Just before 5:00 PM May 1, 2014 officers entered a home in the 1600 block of Afton Court and arrested a 37 year old female resident. A search of the home revealed just over 20 grams of Cocaine and 2 Oxycodone tablets. The combined street value of the seized drugs is just over $2,100.00. Police also seized $1,200.00cash.

The women was charged with Possession for the Purpose of trafficking and Possession. She awaits a Bail Hearing.

Impaired Driver Arrested

On Sunday May 4 2014 just after 3:00 AM Sarnia Police responded to a complaint of a truck stopped for a red light at Wellington at Mitton Street.

The truck had not moved even though the lights had changed several times. Police attended and found the 25 year old driver asleep behind the wheel. The driver stated he was headed to the mall and got out of the truck before putting it in park. The man was arrested and provided samples of his breath that indicated he was almost twice the legal limit.

He is charged with Impaired Driving and Driving with More than 80MG.

Man Arrested For Parking Lot Incident

A man was arrested last night after brandishing a knife in a parking lot.

Officers responded to a man with a knife call last night, Tuesday May 6, 2015 at about 5:00PM at a parking lot on Earlscourt Drive. A 30 year old Sarnia man was revving the engine on his motorcycle and was asked to stop by another man. The accused began arguing and then brandished a knife and continued to walk towards the other man. The accused continued arguing as he approached. The unarmed man fled and called police.

Officers arrested the accused and charged him with Carry a Concealed Weapon, Weapons Dangerous and Assault with a Weapon. The accused will be held for a Bail Hearing sometime today.

Update : Shred It 2014

The numbers are in and the Sarnia Police Service considers the 2014 Shred It Event a huge Success. A total of 603 people attended the event on April 26, 2014. Volunteers shredded a total of 14,212 lbs. (6,460 kg) of documents dropped off. The event began in 2006 and since that time 1778 people have dropped off 55,802 lbs. (25,682 kg) of personal documents, receipts and records. This effort assists in reducing fraud and identity theft.

The Sarnia Police Service would like to thank Wal-Mart and Shred-It for their continued support.

The Sarnia Police Service is requesting the public’s immediate assistance in locating a missing 33 year old female “Bonnie BALICE” and her infant child “Ashton BARNEVELD” from the Sarnia area. Bonnie BALICE was last seen in the Sarnia area on the 07 May 2014 while Ashton BARNEVELD was last seen on the 04 May 2014. It is imperative that both Bonnie BALICE and Ashton BARNEVELD be located to check on their wellbeing.

 

Description(Bonnie BALICE): Caucasian Female, 5’3″, 110 lbs, hazel eyes, long brown hair.

The officers are interested in locating a dark colour SUV motor vehicle with damage to the front.

Sarnia Police Service has made an arrest in relation to a hit and run fatal collision which occurred on Friday May 9, 2014 just after 11:00 PM.

A 22 year old Sarnia man was arrested at Sarnia Police Headquarters after turning himself in to police on Sunday May 11, 2014. The man was released later today after a Bail Hearing and faces one count of Criminal Negligence Causing Death and one count Fail to Remain.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance to locate a Samsung Galaxy cell phone discarded in the area east of Indian Road and Hickory Street.

Arson Investigation

Sarnia Police and Sarnia Fire and Rescue are investigating a series of four dumpster fires occurring last night.

The first fire was called in just after 10:00PM, Sunday May 11, 2014 in the 100 block of Cromwell Street. The second fire occurred shortly after in the 200 block of Exmouth Street.

The third fire was called in around 10:30PM behind a business located in the 400 block of Exmouth Street. A witness observed 2 males in their 20′s in the area of the dumpster just before the fire was spotted. These same two males were then seen attempting to steal a bicycle which was parked in front of the Mac’s Convenience store on the corner of Exmouth and Capel Street. The owner of the bicycle caught the two men and was able to get his bicycle back. The two men then ran south on Capel Street. Police would like to speak with the owner of the bicycle as a possible witness.

The fourth fire was called in around 11:20Pm in the 100 block of Mitton Street.

Update: Prescription Drug Drop Off Day

Sarnia Police are reporting that the second annual Prescription Drug Drop Off Day was a huge success. Vice officers assisted by uniform officers collected 2 pounds of a mixture of Oxycodone, Morphine and Hydromorphone. This was in addition to 35 pounds of other medications collected for destruction. There was an increase in the amount of medication collected this year, up from about 30 pounds last year. More people also visited the “drive-thru “collection point at Sarnia Police Headquarters. Thirty cars visited compared with 21 last year.

This campaign was province wide and supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. During last year’s Prescription Drop-Off Day, 3,400 pounds of medication were collected at 104 locations across Ontario. These drugs were safely and securely destroyed in an environmentally-friendly manner, and thereby kept out of the criminal economy.
