Update: Fugitive Five January 2014

Brant County O.P.P. has arrested Brandon William Scott McNevan on numerous criminal charges in that area. McNevan had been featured in the January 10, 2014 Sarnia Police Fugitive Five. McNevan was arrested along with Nicole Martindale who had been reported as missing with Sarnia Police Service.

The Fugitive Five list has two outstanding persons, Jonathan Gil LEITH and Marshall Jay Scott MANESS.

 

Jonathan Gil LEITH, DOB: 04May1976, age 37. Male, white, 170 cm (5′ 7″), 77 kg (170 lbs), black hair, brown eyes. Tattoos on both arms. Wanted for Failing to Attend Court on September 3, Fail to Attend for Fingerprints and Assault.

 

 

Marshall Jay Scott MANESS, DOB: 30Dec1973, age 39. Male, aboriginal, 180 cm (5′ 11″), 68 kg (150 lbs), brown hair, brown eyes. Tattoos on both arms and scars over eye and right upper arm. Wanted for Assault with a Weapon.

Retired Constable Emmons Recognized

Retired Constable Heather Emmons received a Certificate of Recognition from Ontario Women in Law Enforcement for her community service work. Heather was presented with the certificate at a ceremony on May 2, 2014 in Mississauga.

Heather joined the Sarnia Police Service in February 1986 and retired this past February. At the time of her hiring she was one of only two female officers in Sarnia. She has been active on a number of different committees including the Coordinating Committee on Violence Against Women, the Elder Abuse Committee, the Domestic Assault Review Team, Goodwill Industries, Big Sisters, been a V.I.P. officer and also served as backup to the Domestic Violence Coordinator while serving in Criminal Investigations. She also volunteers with the Humane Society and the VON. She has participated in a College “Girls in Gear” day aimed at attracting senior high school students to careers in Emergency Services. On several occasions Heather has been asked to enlighten students on careers in policing from a woman’s perspective.

Heather continues to serve her community as a volunteer.

Impaired Driver

Sarnia Police arrested a 48 year old Sarnia women for impaired driving on Sunday May 25, 2014 around 8:30PM.

The women had been involved in a vehicle collision in the area of Exmouth Street and Elizabeth Street just after 8:00PM. She failed to remain at the scene and officers found her vehicle with two flat tires parked in the driveway of her residence.

The women was arrested for impaired operation and provided breath samples which indicated she was four times the legal limit. She has been charged with Impaired Operation and Drive Over 80MGand will appear in court on July 8,2014.

Phone Scam

Sarnia Police are advising people to beware of a common phone scam that has victimized a local man.

A local man in his 80′s received a telephone call from someone claiming he was the victim’s son. He told the victim he had been in a car accident in Montreal while driving a rental car with no insurance. The caller asked for money to pay for a fine and some other expenses. The money was sent and the next day the victim received another call asking for more money to pay for a second fine for driving while impaired. Over the next few days the victim received more calls requesting money, one call was another man claiming to be a lawyer acting for the “son “and requested a lawyers fee. The victim sent a total of $15,000.00.

This is a common phone scam and the public is encouraged to speak with family members who may be victimized by this scam. The scammers will stress the urgency of the situation and the need to keep quite. Anyone getting a call of this nature should do some checking to confirm the caller’s story. Man Arrested For Threats in Canatara

On Sunday May 25, 2014 shortly after 10:00am the 25 year old accused Sarnia man was in his pick-up truck in Canatara Park when he became involved in an argument will another man. The accused threatened to shoot the other man. The victim called police who attended the park and found the intoxicated accused near his truck. The man was arrested for the threats. During a search, after the arrest, police found ammunition on the accused and a rifle on the backseat floor of his truck.

The man was charged with Utter Threats to Cause Death and will appear in court July 8, 2014.

Drug Warrant Executed

Sarnia Police Service Vice Officers executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant in the 300 Block of Mitton St. South in the City of Sarnia on May 28, 2014.

Shortly after midnight on May 28, 2014, the Vice Officers entered the residence where a man in his 50′s was located and arrested.

After a search of the residence the officers were able to locate 18.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $2184.00 and about 596 grams of marihuana, with a street value of $5960 with a total value$8144.00.

$3045 in cash was also seized secondary to the search of the residence.

The man was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking controlled substances, including methamphetamine and marihuana. He will be held for a bail hearing with regards to these charges.

Break and Enter and Arrest

On May 28, 2014, shortly after 3:30am the Sarnia Police Service uniform division responded to an alarm call to a business in the 1600 block of London Line in the City of Sarnia.

Upon arrival officers observed that the front entrance glass door had been smashed using a rock. A search of the building revealed that there was no one present in the building.

The suspect had left through a side door after having stolen a quantity of clothing from the business. Police were able to locate an article of the stolen clothing in the rear parking lot and were able to track through the back field the foot prints left behind by the suspect.

The prints led to the back of a motel located on London Line and through further investigation police were able to locate the man, who is in his 40′s, in one of the motel rooms. When the man answered the door the police observed the stolen articles of clothing lying in the room in plain view and thus the man was arrested for the offences of break and enter and possession of stolen property. The man will be held for a bail hearing.

The Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Division will be continuing the investigation into this matter.

Bike Safety Workshop

On June 17, 2014 the Lambton Public Health Unit and Bluewater Trails of Sarnia Lambton will be running a Bike Safety Workshop for all ages.

This will take place at Clearwater Arena and will start at 5:00pm until 8:30pm in the Lower Hall Meeting Room.

Please bring your bicycle and your helmet. There will be very useful information on riding your bicycle, safety and rules of the road.

Sarnia Police requesting public help in locating missing elderly male in Turner Drive area

Sarnia Police have received a report that an 83 year-old male, Wilfred Duguay went for a walk from the area of Turner Drive and Trudeau at about 7:15 PM this evening, and has not returned home as of yet.

He is described as follows:

  • White male; approximately 5′ 8″ tall with average build;
  • White short hair, balding on top;
  • Wearing a beige ball cap, beige pants, and a red shirt with a blue stripe
  • He wears eyeglasses, but it is not known if he has them on at this time

Sarnia Police request any person who spots Mr. Duguay to call in immediately.

Motor Vehicle Collision

At approximately 11:50 am Sunday June 1, 2014 Sarnia Police, Sarnia Fire and Lambton EMS responded to a serious three car Motor Vehicle Collision involving a rollover, at the area of Lakeshore and Waterworks. Several persons are being treated for minor injuries. Sarnia Police are requesting the publics’ assistance to remain away from the area. The intersection of Lakeshore Road and Waterworks Side Road is completely closed as well as Waterworks between Lakeshore and Michigan.

Follow-up to Motor Vehicle Collision- June 1, 2014

At approximately 11:50 am Sunday June 1, 2014 Sarnia Police, Sarnia Fire and Lambton EMS responded to a serious three car Motor Vehicle Collision involving a rollover, at the area of Lakeshore and Waterworks. Several persons were being treated for minor injuries only. Alcohol was not a factor in this collision.

At 1:25 pm the intersection was re-opened and the investigation is continuing by members of the Community Response Division.

The Sarnia Police Service appreciates the publics’ attention and cooperation in avoiding the area to assist in the timely re-opening of this intersection.

Suspect From Robbery Arrested

On February 9, 2014 The London Road Food Mart Convenience Store located at 274 London Road, in the City of Sarnia, Ontario had a lone male wearing a facial disguise enter the store and brandish a black handgun. The man then robbed the store of cash and fled the area on a bicycle. Since then the investigation has been on going through Sarnia Police Criminal Investigation Division.

The Criminal Investigation Branch has able to determine a suspect for the robbery.

On May 31, 2014 officers from the Uniform Patrol Division of the Sarnia Police Service were able to arrest the suspect in this matter from a residence in the 100 Block of Queen Street in the City of Sarnia.

The suspect is currently in custody and his name is being withheld pending a Bail Hearing this morning June 2, 2014.

Robbery Suspect Remanded in Custody

Break Enter and Arrest

Shortly after 7:00AM on Tuesday June 3, 2014 a homeowner in the 600 block of Hall Street observed a man standing by the homeowners open garage door. The garage had been locked and this unknown man was holding items from inside the garage. The homeowner spoke to this man who then left and police were called. Officers were unable to locate the unknown man.

At about 8:20 AM police received another call from a different homeowner in the 600 block of Hall Street indicating that this same unknown male was seen taking a wheel barrow from a residence. Police attended and the man fled on foot pursued by police. The man then stole a bicycle from the yard of a home and continued to flee now riding the bicycle. Officers continued to pursue the man to the area of Rosedale and Colborne Road where he dropped the bicycle and continued to flee on foot. He was caught and arrested. The wheel barrow was located along with items which the man had stolen.

Police have charged a 24 year old Forest man with two counts of Theft and one count of Break and Enter. He will be held pending a Bail Hearing.

E-bike Stop Leads to Arrest

On Tuesday June 3, 2014 at about 10:44AM Sarnia Police stopped a 54 year old man operating an E-bike on Exmouth Street. The man was initially stopped because he did not have the chin strap on his helmet fastened.

It was quickly discovered that this man was on a lifetime driving ban for several criminal driving convictions. The man was arrested for disqualified driving and searched. Officers located what they believed to be methamphetamine and crystal methamphetamine in the man’s backpack. Police also located identification belonging to a victim who had his identification stolen in a break and enter.

The man was charged with Disqualified Driving, Possession of Stolen Property, Breach of Probation and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

He was held for a Bail Hearing.

Commercial Vehicle Safety Lane

On Tuesday June 10, 2014 between 3:00 PM and 5:00PM Sarnia Police Traffic and the Ministry of Transportation will be conducting an information safety lane. The lane will be located at the Centennial Parking Lot off Front Street.

This is a joint initiative and is for Commercial Motor Vehicle owners. Officers will be offering an information based safety lane where owners of CMVs or potential CMVs can attend. This is geared to companies such as landscapers, roofers and masonry companies who have dual rear wheel pickups, dump boxes, dual axle trailers etc.

The officers at he the safety lane will be providing information on the units brought to the safety lane and what steps are required to bring them into compliance. Note, any equipment with an obvious safety issue will be required to be repaired or towed from the safety lane.

UPDATE: Robbery Suspect

The man charged for the February 9, 2014 robbery at The London Road Food Mart faces further charges.

Scott Clayton McLEAN was arrested on May 31, 2014 and held for a bail hearing. The accused was charged with several more offences at that bail hearing. He now faces charges of Robbery Using a Firearm, Pointing a Firearm, Wearing a Disguise, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous and Fail to Comply with Bail Conditions.

His next court appearance is scheduled for June 11, 2014.
