Broadcast time: 8:11 AM

Date: December 6, 2013

Just before 4:30 PM yesterday, the Vice Branch, assisted by members of the Community Response Branch, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Maxwell Street. Inside, they found a 42 year old Sarnia woman and a 41 year old man. They were both arrested. A small quantity of methamphetamine was found. The female was later released on a Promise to Appear on a charge of Possession of Methamphetamine. The male was held for bail, charged with the Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking.

During the second search, marihuana was seized. In this particular incident, a uniformed patrol officer was initially responding to a break and enter call on Earlscourt Drive. The officer arrived to find an insecure door. He entered to check for suspects or any occupant. No one was found, however, the officer was met with an overwhelming smell of marihuana. Drug paraphernalia was observed in plain view. The Vice Branch was contacted and a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant was applied for and granted.

Officers entered the apartment just after midnight this morning. In total, about 117 grams of marihuana was seized with a street value of about $1175. A little over $400 in cash was also seized. The occupant of the apartment was not home, and his whereabouts are unknown at this time. A warrant to arrest will be issued for a 25 year old Sarnia man on a charge of Possession of Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking.

A Sarnia Police cruiser was involved in a crash at the intersection of Indian Road and Exmouth Street early this afternoon. The collision the officer was responding to involved a single vehicle that collided into a fence in a residential yard.

Broadcast time: 8:31 AM Date: December 12, 2013

The first ever Cop Shop hosted by Lambton Mall was a huge success. Twenty very happy Sarnia Police officers were matched with twenty very lucky kids who had been selected by their school for this special event. The group was greeted by Santa and Chief Nelson who spoke to the participants. Everyone was treated with pizza and refreshments then the kids received a stocking and bag filled with donations from various vendors at the mall.

The shopping started and the first shopper spent his $200 within 20 minutes. Slowly, the rest of the shoppers arrived back at the food court with the Cops carrying many bags filled with great items. The kids had their picture taken with Santa and then they went back to school or were taken home, very excited and tired.

It was a very rewarding experience for the officers who volunteered their time for this occasion. Check out the pictures on the Lambton Mall Facebook page or the Sarnia Police Facebook page.

Update: Arrests in Recent Robberies

Broadcast time: 9:10 AM Date: December 12, 2013

Sarnia Police have made some arrests in the recent robberies at local drug stores. A joint investigation involving the Sarnia Police Vice h and Criminal Investigation Branches has led to the arrest of five people. The investigation commenced on December 10 when the Vice Branch executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a home in the 1000 block of London Road. Officers made entry into the home around 10:30 PM and found two males and one female inside along with two young children. All the adults were arrested as drugs were in plain view.  Grounds existed for the arrests of two more adults, one male and one female, who were not at home at the time.  It was discovered that these two people were in the Kincardine area.

Other evidence observed inside led the investigators to apply for a Criminal Code search warrant which was executed late yesterday. The home had been under police guard until the execution of the second warrant. Further information gleaned during the second warrant indicated that one of the males found inside originally, and the male who was in custody in the Kincardine area were responsible for the robbery in Bright’s Grove on December 6 in the daytime.

Two males, aged 28 and 33, both from Sarnia, will be going to court this morning to face many charges in relation to the Bright’s Grove robbery.  Charges will include Robbery, Pointing a Firearm and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. There are 7 charges in total.

The three adults were arrested at the home on the night of December 10 when the first warrant was executed will face Trafficking and possession charges.  The drugs found included methamphetamine and hydromorphone.  The children were taken into protective custody that night. These people were also held for bail hearing. The names will be released when the parties formally appear before a Justice. More information to follow.

This robbery is not related to the early morning robbery on Indian Road. More information will follow in relation to that investigation later today. One man from the Toronto area is in custody in that case. He will go to court later this morning.

Broadcast time: 9:30 AM

Date: December 13, 2013

The five people arrested in connection with the search warrant on London Road have all been remanded until today and will appear via video link to set dates for bail hearings. The three Sarnia adults arrested in the home that night were 25 year old Sarah Daponte, 21 year old Kyle Ebert and 33 year old Joshua William Gray. Reasonable grounds existed for the arrest of 28 year old Jason Tyler Bruce Ferguson and Amanda Ferguson who were associated to the London Road home but were not present at the time. It was learned that Jason Ferguson was in custody in the Kincardine area on unrelated charges. The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant recovered 8 grams of crystal methamphetamine valued at about $960, various quantities of hydromorphone, in different milligrams, valued at almost $900, 874 phenobarbital pills valued at over $8,700 on the street as well as tramadol, suboxone, over 100 dilaudid pills and some oxycodone pills. The total street value of all these pills is about $3,240.

Both Jason Ferguson and Amanda Ferguson were eventually returned to Sarnia by police.

The Criminal Investigations Branch then executed a Criminal Code search warrant at the same London Road home to recover evidence from the recent Bright’s Grove robbery.

As a result of that investigation, Jason Ferguson and Joshua Gray are charged with Robbery with a Firearm, Robbery with a Disguise, Weapons Dangerous to the Public Peace, Pointing a Firearm and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. Joshua Gray faces further charges of Breach of Undertaking and violating a Prohibition Order by Possessing a Firearm.

All five adults jointly face four charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Hydromorphone, Tramadol and Phenobarbital. They also jointly face charges of Production of Hydromorphone, Possession of Oxycodone, Possession of Liquid Methamphetamine and Possession of Suboxone. Jason Ferguson will face an additional two charges of Breach of Recognizance. These charges are in relation to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant.

Date: December 13, 2013

Roy Anthony Wilson, age 31, remains in custody in relation to the robbery on South Indian Road on December 6. He will appear December 19 at 8:30 AM via video. He faces a total of 14 Criminal Code charges including Breach of Probation x 4, Hostage Taking x 2, Disguise with Intent, Robbery with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, Carry a Concealed Weapon (a knife), Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Assault Peace Officer and Assault.

Wilson robbed the business then fled on foot. The OPP canine was called out to assist early that morning. Some evidence from the robbery was discovered nearby. Later that same morning, police were called to a home in the 800 block of Wellington Street regarding a trespasser. The officers arrived and found the accused sleeping under a trailer in a residential yard. More evidence discovered at this scene led the officers to believe this was the man responsible for the earlier robbery.

Officers attempted to speak to him, but he was incoherent, un-cooperative and combative. An ambulance was called. He attempted to spit on the police and did spit on one of the attending paramedics. He was transported to hospital for treatment as a result of a possible overdose and exposure. He remained there under police guard for several days. Broadcast time: 9:02 AM

Date: December 16, 2013

Sarnia Police responded to a couple of volatile situations over this past weekend, each one involving threats and weapons. Unfortunately, domestic and family disputes increase over the holiday season and can be unpredictable for officers responding to them.

In the first case, Sarnia officers began investigating and assault and threatening investigation which had occurred on December 14 around 7 AM. This incident initially happened at a home in the 6000 block of Waterworks Road. A 43 year old Warwick man attended a residence to deliver an item to a 30 year old Bright’s Grove man. A confrontation took place between the two in the garage area. Threats were made to the 43 year old man by the 30 year old accused. The threats continued to the man and toward his family.

The accused’s wife exited the home after hearing the yelling. She attempted to stop her husband but to no avail. The accused pushed the victim and yelling threats to take the victim’s vehicle. A baseball bat was produced by the accused. The victim was struck two to three times in the head. The victim eventually made it to his vehicle and attempted to get inside. The accused was closing the door on the victim’s legs. The victim managed to get in and left the property. He called 911 on his way home, fearing for his own safety and that of his family.

The Ontario Provincial Police attended the victim’s home and saw the injuries to the victim’s head. An ambulance was called and the victim was taken to hospital. The OPP stood by the victim’s residence after seeing the victim’s cell phone the threatening messages sent by the accused. A short time later, the accused was observed on the road in front of the victim’s home. The OPP initiated a traffic stop and arrested the accused for assault and threatening. He was taken to Sarnia Police headquarters. A search of the accused vehicle led to the discovery of an unloaded rifle with ammunition in the case. A knife in a sheath was also discovered.

The man faces a total of 6 charges, including Assault with a Weapon, Assault, Utters Threats to Cause Death x 2, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Criminal Harassment. He is being held for bail.

In the second incident, police were called to a home on Tashmoo Avenue on December 15 around 9:40 PM regarding a disturbance. Officers arrived and found three frightened people in the driveway of a home. They soon learned a 31 year old man had assault his brother by pushing him and throwing a chair at him. He also made threats to him using a knife. Police entered the home to search for the accused. He was not found, but about 6 grams of marihuana was found in the accused bedroom. Police also seized a steak knife that was found sticking out of the wall. Alcohol was a factor in this incident.
