Broadcast time: 12:20 PM

Date: December 16, 2013

The first ever Cram the Cruiser event was a huge success for Sarnia Police and the Sarnia-Lambton Children’s Aid Society. The event, held at the Lambton Mall, started at 1 PM and went on until 9 PM.

Support was overwhelming. The cruiser was filled three times throughout the day. It was amazing. People came by to ask specifically what was needed and returned a short time later with a gift. Even more families and children will be supported than originally thought possible. The community turnout was wonderful.

Special thanks to volunteers and employees of the Sarnia Police and the Children’s Aid who attended to help out at this worthwhile cause.

Broadcast time: 7:59 AM

Date: December 20, 2013

December 19 was a busy day for city police. On that day, around 3 PM, a 24 year old Sarnia woman was arrested on London Road near East Street. A warrant had been outstanding for the woman for Theft Over $5,000. Police started an investigation on December 5, 2013, when it was reported to them the woman stole a Pontiac motor vehicle. The investigation revealed that on December 5, the accused attended an address on Tunis Avenue and took the car without the permission of the owner who she knew. She left a bike in the driveway. A short time later, the car was returned to the driveway and the owner of the car observed the accused in the back seat. The accused left the scene before the police arrived. There was no damage to the car. The accused was released from custody on an Undertaking with conditions.

Around 3:30 PM, police attended an address on Elgin Street regarding a domestic dispute. A 31 year old Sarnia man was arguing with his 29 year old ex-girlfriend. The man agreed to leave the area and advised not to return. There was no complaint from his ex-girlfriend regarding any assault.

Later that night, around 10 PM, the man re-attended the Elgin Street address. The woman saw him at the door and called police. They arrived and the man was arrested. He was searched and about 5 grams of marihuana, a smaller quantity of methamphetamine and some syringes were found on him. The man remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing on charges of Possession of Marihuana and Possession of Methamphetamine.

At 11:30 PM, police were in the area of Davis and Mitton Streets when the observed a 38 year old Sarnia man. The police were familiar with him and were aware he was on a Recognizance of Bail with conditions. One of the conditions of that Recognizance was that he was not to associate with a certain 36 year old Sarnia woman. The officer observed the accused along with that woman riding bicycles together. The pair saw the police and separated by riding off in different directions. The officer approached the accused and arrested him for Breach. The man was held for a bail hearing.

Broadcast time: 8:48 AM

Date: December 20, 2013

There are only 5 shopping days left before Christmas and Sarnia Police are reminding people to lock your car doors and keep all valuables out of site. Police will be in area shopping center parking lots today checking vehicles to see if they are secure and that nothing of value can be seen inside the car. This will be a busy weekend for shoppers so every precaution you take will be to your own advantage.

If you are shopping at night, park your car in a well-lit area. If you will be making frequent trips to your vehicle, move it to another location after each trip. Have your keys in hand as you approach your vehicle. Keep your purse secure and closed and never leave it unattended. Be aware of your surroundings.

Take extra time to make sure your home is secure and all doors locked with window blinds closed and make sure that gifts under the tree are not visible from the outside. Protect all your property so you don’t become a target.

Sarnia Police attended an address in the 800 block of Ontario Street on December 22 around 1:45 PM. The alarm was sounding. Officers arrived to find the business owner there who indicated to them that someone had tried to gain entry into a rear bay door. Officers went inside but found no one. They did discover a broken shovel that had been used to wedge up one of the doors. Foot prints were visible in the snow.

The security tapes are also being viewed. Two males are observed on the video, one wearing a white hoody and a green jacket. He is carrying a black back pack and wearing gloves. The second male is wearing a green parka with a fur lined hood, dark pants and gloves. It does not appear entry was gained inside. Broadcast time: 9:45 AM

Date: December 23, 2013

A 21 year old Sarnia man remains in custody this morning and will go for a bail hearing to face charges of Break and Enter and Breach of Probation. Police were originally called to the Murphy Road and Fraser Avenue area around 3:30 AM regarding a male screaming. Minutes later they had to respond to a home on Sherida Avenue for a house alarm. This location is immediately east of the Murphy and Fraser location.

Officers arrived at the house and found the rear patio door smashed. There was a wet brick lying on the kitchen floor and a vase on the kitchen table was broken. They entered the home, calling out their presence. They found a man sleeping under a blanket on the couch in the basement. He had a fresh cut on his face. He was intoxicated. Vomit was on the carpet across from where he was found sleeping. The man identified himself and was arrested around 4 AM.

The Sarnia Police Forensic Identification Branch attended to take photos of the crime scene. The man was treated for his facial cut.
