Sarnia Police arrested a man from the Ottawa area just before 2:30 am this morning for driving offences including impaired driving.
A Uniform Patrol officer was on Wellington Street near Indian Road when he turned his cruiser around to speak with a cyclist. As the officer turned he noticed a car which was stopped at a red light on Wellington Street proceed thru the red light onto Indian Road. The car travelled north at high rate of speed and failed to stop when the officer activated the cruiser lights and siren. The driver then turned down several side streets in an attempt to evade police and eventually stopped on Montcalm Avenue. The 24 year old male driver was arrested for dangerous driving. During conversation with the male, the officer detected signs of impairment and transported the man to the Sarnia Police Station to conduct a breath test. The test revealed the man was over the legal limit to drive.
The suspect is being held for a bail hearing and is charged with dangerous driving, impaired driving, driving while over the legal limit and failing to stop for police.
