On Wednesday May 13, 2015 just after 1:00 p.m. a member of the COPPS Unit stopped a 31 year old man riding a bicycle on Wellington Street near Mitton Street. The man identified himself with a false name and as he was reaching into his backpack the officer observed a syringe and what he believed to be methamphetamine. When the man was told he was under arrest he dropped the bicycle and fled on foot. As he was running the man produced a knife and threatened the officer.
The man ran into a business in the 100 block of Mitton Street South and locked the door behind him. The man was still brandishing the knife and threatened to harm himself. An officer was able to speak to the man and asked that the male employee still inside the business be allowed out. The employee was allowed to leave the building and a short time later police entered the business and deployed the Taser enabling them to take the man into custody. In addition to the suspected methamphetamine the man also had three tablets of Morphine in his possession. He was transported to Bluewater Health by Lambton EMS as a precaution and is now in police custody awaiting a bail hearing.
He faces several charges including Public Mischief, two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resist a Police Officer, Uttering Threats, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Mischief, Forcible Confinement ,Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, three counts of breaching a Weapons Prohibition and Breaching his probation.
