A Sarnia Police cruiser was extensively damaged early this morning just after 3:30 AM when it crashed on eastbound Highway 402. The officer was responding to a call in the east part of the city and he had activated his roof lights. The roads were slushy and icy after a fresh snowfall.
The cruise came to rest along the south wall of the highway in the ditch area, between the guard rail and the sound barrier wall. Damage was to the front and rear driver’s side and the air bag had deployed. A passing motorist had stopped to assist the officer.
The officer was taken to hospital for treatment but was released with no injuries. The cruiser was towed from the scene. The Ontario Provincial Police attended to conduct the investigation.
