On January 5, 2023, at approximately 11:15 PM, Sarnia Police received information that a vehicle was parked in the middle of the St. Clair Parkway impeding traffic. An individual that was passing by observed the vehicle and was concerned for the driver so decided to check on the driver’s well-being. When the passerby knocked on the window the driver awoke and then suddenly left the area at a high rate of speed.
Thanks to the passerby officers were able to locate the vehicle as it made its way back into the City of Sarnia to a residence. When officers arrived and dealt with the driver it is alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and that a bottle of open alcohol was also in the vehicle. As a result, the accused was taken into custody for impaired operation and transported back to the Sarnia Police Service Headquarters for testing on the Intoxilyzer Instrument.
Results from the testing indicated that the accused was over twice the legal limit.
Therefore, Jeffrey Allan Stewart, 39 years of age, of Sarnia, faces one count of impaired by alcohol and one count of having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
Thanks to concerned citizens assisting the police, in this fashion, it is possible to reduce impaired driving.
