Sarnia Police Kept Busy With Impaired Drivers

Sarnia Police Service officers dealt with a number of individuals over the weekend that were ultimately charged with impaired operation.

On January 7, 2023, at approximately 2:20 AM, an officer came across a vehicle travelling northbound on Indian Road at a high rate of speed and failing to come to a proper stop at a red light. The officer continued to follow the vehicle and observed further evidence related to how the vehicle was driven improperly. The suspect vehicle was ultimately stopped and once the driver was spoken to grounds were formed to arrest the driver for impaired operation.

The accused was transported to the station and supplied samples of breath to an Intoxilyzer Instrument for testing. The test results indicated that the accused, Patrick W. O’Reilly, 62 years of age, of Sarnia, was over twice the legal limit and was charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and for having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

The second incident took place on January 8, 2023, at 2:06 AM, at the drive thru of a local restaurant located on London Road. Employees contacted police advising that the driver of the vehicle was falling a sleep at the wheel and appeared to be under the influence. Once officers arrived and dealt with driver grounds were formed to arrest the accused for impaired operation. The accused submitted to testing to determine the level of alcohol in their blood. The results indicated that the accused, Janeva Paige Altiman-Peters, 21 years of age, of Sarnia, was over twice the legal limit. Altiman-Peters now faces one count of operation while impaired by alcohol and one count of having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

Finally, on January 8, 2023, at approximately 5:40 PM, a concerned citizen contacted the Sarnia Police Service in regards to a possible impaired driver travelling westbound on Wellington Street all over the roadway. Officers located the vehicle in the area of Wellington and Indian Road and followed it to Devine Street. The vehicle was observed driving all over the road and was stopped on Devine Street. As officers dealt with the driver of the vehicle grounds were formed to arrest the accused for impaired operation.

The accused was transported back to the Sarnia Police Station where a breath technician took samples of breath from the accused on an Intoxilyzer Instrument. The test results indicated that the accused had over four times the legal limit of alcohol in their system.

Douglas Keith Workman, 27 years of age, of Sarnia now faces one count of operation while impaired by alcohol and one count for having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
