On December 7, 2020, at approximately 10:45 PM, an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle being driven in a manner that raised concerns. The officer conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and after dealing with the driver demanded that the driver provide a sample of breath into a road side screening device.
The driver’s sample reading indicated a “Fail”. The driver was then taken into custody and transported back to the station to confirm the actual reading on the Intoxilyzer Instrument. Subsequent testing indicated that the accused was over the legal limit.
Kevin Janssens, 50 years of age, of Sarnia, has been charged with operating a vehicle with a blood concentration of 80 plus and was issued a 90 – day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension. His first court date will be on January 26, 2021, at 9:30 AM, at the Sarnia Court House.
On December 8, 2020, at approximately 12:50 AM, according to information received, the accused initially had a taxi arranged by his hosts to take him home due to the fact he had been drinking. For whatever unknown reason, the accused changed his mind, before the taxi could leave, and instead got out and decided to drive away in his own vehicle.
The accused was observed driving away at a high rate of speed and ended up jumping the curb in the Sycamore Street and Bright Street area. It then drove through the fence that surrounded the portion of the dog park meant for timid dogs. There the accused caused extensive damage to the fence, a bench, and some signs. Fortunately, the driver was not hurt.
When police arrived on scene the driver was placed under arrest and transported back to Sarnia Police Service Headquarters where he provided samples of his breath. According to the readings the accused was three times the legal limit.
Matthew Isaac Esser, 28 years of age, of Sarnia, has been charged with one count of impaired operation, one count of a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus, and one count of mischief over $5000. Mr. Esser’s first court date is on January 26, 2021, at 9:30 AM, at the Sarnia Court House. Mr. Esser also faces a 90 – day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension.
