On November 20, 2020, shortly after 8:30 PM, an off duty police officer, in his own personal vehicle, was travelling southbound on Modeland Road behind another vehicle that swerving in and out of its lane of travel into oncoming vehicles. The off duty officer continued to observe that the vehicle was being driven in a very erratic manner. The officer contacted 911 dispatch to request a uniformed officer attend to stop the vehicle.
The officer continued to follow the suspect vehicle into a driveway in the area. To ensure that the suspect didn’t evade police once he exited the vehicle the off duty officer took the male driver into custody, after identifying himself as a police officer. Once a uniformed officer attend the accused was turned over and the arrest was continued.
The accused was required to supply a suitable sample of breath into an Intoxilyzer which indicated he was over the legal limit at nearly twice the amount.
David Maxfield, 56 years of age, was charged with one count of impaired operation and one count of having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus. Maxfield’s first appearance will be on January 12, 2021, at 9:30 AM, at the Sarnia Courthouse
On November 22, 2020, at approximately 12:24 PM, an on-duty officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed heading northbound on Indian Rd. The officer began to follow the motor vehicle which was being driven in an unsafe manner.
The officer activated the cruisers emergency lights and brought the suspect vehicle to a stop. The driver exited the vehicle at which point he stumbled to his knees, falling against the vehicle. As the investigation continued the officer formed grounds to arrest the suspect for impaired operation.
The accused was tested on the Intoxilyzer Instrument by a qualified breath technician which confirmed the he was over the legal limit.
The accused, Darren Marcel Huard, 45 years of age, of Sarnia, faces one count of impaired operation, one count of having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus, and one count of driving under suspension. Huard’s first appearance will be on January 5, 2021, at 9:30 AM, at the Sarnia Courthouse.
