On December 7, 2016, at approximately 2:30 pm, a 69 year old female was returning to her vehicle, which was parked at the Northgate Shopping Plaza, with her shopping cart. As she headed towards her vehicle two males on bicycles approached her and stole her purse from her cart and fled from the area.
After receiving a description of the suspects an officer from the Sarnia Police COPPS Unit was able to locate one of the suspects, 20 year old male from London, in the area of Rosedale Avenue and Ellewood Avenue a short time later. The second suspect remained at large.
On December 16, 2016 the second suspect was arrested by members of the London Police Service in London on an outstanding warrant from Sarnia. Sarnia Police attended London Police Headquarters to transport the accused, a 19 year old male from Sarnia, back to the Sarnia Police Headquarters where the arrest was continued and the accused was then held for a bail hearing.
The 19 year old suspect is facing one count of theft under $5000.00, one count of breach of probation, and one count of breach of recognizance.
