Broadcast time: 10:00 am

Date: September 8, 2016

The Sarnia Police Service requires assistance from the public regarding a number of vehicles that were either recovered as stolen yesterday morning or were stolen yesterday morning.

On September 7, 2016, at approximately 7:40 am the Sarnia Police Service responded to the report of a stolen vehicle from the north end of Indian Road in the City of Sarnia. At this time the victim wished to report his grey, 2003 GMC Yukon Denali, bearing Ontario license plate BLEF642, as stolen. The vehicle also had the advertisement for “Natural Healing Lamps” located on both back windows in large letters.

The officer then took another report from the area of Stonecrest and Colborne Road regarding a recovered black 2005 Cadillac Escalade which had been reported stolen from the Brampton area. While there the officer received information that a Chevrolet Blazer parked in the same area with windows broken and it appeared as if suspects attempted to steal the vehicle but were unsuccessful.

From there the officer attended the area of McGee Street where he took a report regarding a stolen vehicle. A witness observed that the Yukon Denali with the advertisement for “Natural Healing Lamps” on it was in the area earlier. Two males were then observed loading items into the Yukon. In the area another stolen pickup truck was recovered that had been stolen from London, Ontario.

Finally, a report was taken of a stolen 2004 grey Escalade bearing Ontario license plate BHLT365 from a driveway located in the 1000 block of Lakeshore Road. A 20 foot trailer was also attached to the Escalade when it was stolen but the trailer had been recovered earlier that morning left in the middle of the street on Indian Road.

It is believed that due to the type of vehicles stolen, time and location that all these incidents are related.

We are asking the public for their assistance in this investigation. If anyone knows anything they are please asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service at 519 344-8861, extension 0 or to contact Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

As of late the Sarnia Police Service has been recovering a number of stolen bicycles. Over the last month alone there has been an average of one bicycle that has been turned in or recovered as stolen per day.

We would like to return these bicycles and other property that has been recovered but we need your help. Please consider recording the serial number. This could be done by writing it down or even taking a picture of it and storing that information for if and when you made need it.

If your bicycle doesn’t have a serial number on it, or even if it does, consider engraving some sort of identifiable marking on the bicycle that would be out of sight and specific to you only.

These identifying features allow us to record the information onto a report and also onto the Canadian wide system that police use to track information such as stolen items.

Unfortunately, these thieves tend to be well trained in their practice of stealing bicycles. They tend to carry bolt cutters and can be in and out within a few seconds. First of all, lock up your bicycle. Secondly, talk to a reputable bike store and ask them what they would recommend as a durable strong lock. Simple chain or cable locks are not difficult to cut through.

It may be a bit more expensive to buy that higher end lock but knowing you have spent hard earned money to purchase your bicycle it will be worth it in the long run.
