On Wednesday 22 May, 2013 at about 2:45PM a Sarnia Police Service traffic officer stopped a man for speeding on Murphy Rd. The man was travelling north on Murphy Rd between London Rd and Exmouth St when he was caught on radar going 95km/hr in a 50km/hr area.
The driver was a 75 year old man who advised the officer that he was speeding so that he could get his shiny car home before the rain started.
The driver received a $335.00 fine for speeding. It is not known if he made it home before the rain.

Unlicenced Soliciting of Water Purifying Systems
The Sarnia Police Service would like to alert residents of the Sarnia area that an out of town company called Perfectly Pure Solutions is selling water purification systems to homeowners in the Sarnia area without a Salespersons Licence issued under the City of Sarnia Business Licencing By-Law.
Recently, Perfectly Pure Solutions has been contacting residents using telemarketing phone calls, setting up appointments for demonstrations, sales and installation of their product. In one case, the elderly customer unknowingly paid what was believed to be an inflated and unreasonable sum of money for a water filtration system. The Sarnia Police Service urges the public to ensure that the company they are dealing with have the proper licence to operate within the city.

Two Impaired

Sarnia Police officers arrested two impaired drivers over this past weekend.
The first arrest was a 27 year old male driving south on East St when a uniform officer noticed the car weaving. The car was stopped on Talfourd St and an arrest made. The driver was close to the legal limit, however it was discovered he had been issued a 3-day licence suspension previously.
He had received the previous suspension on 5 May 2013 for registering a warning on a roadside screening device.
The man was issued a 7-day driver’s licence suspension and his car was towed.
The second arrest was made by the patrol Sergeant who acted on information provided by another driver. A36 year old female was driving in a manner that prompted a citizen to call 911.
The car was originally seen in the area of Christina St and Michigan Rd. The Sergeant caught up to the vehicle at Front St and London Rd and after using his emergency lights and siren got her to stop near Derby Ln.
The lady was arrested and was found to be three times the legal limit.

Drug Warrants Executed
On May 24, 2013 members of the Sarnia Police Service Vice Unit and assisted by members of the Criminal Investigations Division and COPPS unit along with members of the Toronto Police Drug Squad executed three residential Drug Search Warrants along with a motor vehicle traffic stop.
In Sarnia, officers seized the following evidence;
251 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine
228 grams of Marihuana
.35 grams of Heroin 91 grams of Cocaine
14 tablets of Ecstasy
35.2 grams of Hashish
10.5 grams of Methamphetamine
378 grams of hashish
6.9 grams of MDMA
3 tablets of Ecstasy
Smith and Wesson .22 calibre assault rifle,
50 cartridges of .22 calibre hollow-point rounds of ammunition
In Toronto, police seized the following evidence;

A credit card making machine
The total street value of all drugs seized in relation to this investigation total approximately $94000, with the following breakdown:

Ling Yan NG, born August 17, 1972 2885 Bayview Avenue, Unit 1126, Toronto
All four parties have appeared in court in Sarnia and have been put over for future court dates.
A Warrant to Arrest is being sought for another male in this matter.
Bike Blitz

The Sarnia Police Bicycle Blitz concluded on May 25th, with over 150 charges being laid in the one week period. Charges included many common Highway Traffic Act Offences like Stop Sign and Intersection Infractions. The two most common offences were riding on sidewalks (50) and riding through Crosswalks (40). Cyclists need to understand that they must obey all the rules of the road that motorized vehicles do.
The vast majority of people ticketed were provided an option to take a bicycle safety course in lieu of fines. Persons choosing this option must successfully complete a 4 hour course before the charge is withdrawn.
During this week Sarnia Police responded to two bicycle/ vehicle collisions where the cyclist was found to be at fault. Fortunately only minor injuries occurred.
Sarnia Police plan to continue to get the word out to both cyclists and motorists through a combination of enforcement and education in an effort to reduce the number of bicycle/vehicle collisions and to keep everyone safe.

Road Construction Safety
Drivers in Sarnia are reminded that with the summer months approaching we will see an in increase in road construction.
Although road closures and detours may be inconvenient, it is necessary to ensure the safety of the workers involved in these projects. Road closures are also designed to reroute traffic to ensure the safety of the motorist.
Any road signs placed at construction sites are legally erected and must be obeyed. The Sarnia Police Service Traffic Branch officers are proactively monitoring construction areas and will be issuing fines when offenders are stopped. The Sarnia Police Service has zero tolerance for these offences and fines range from $110.00 to $490.00.
Flare Training
The Sarnia Police Service would like to make the community aware of flare training on 30 May 2013.
The Sarnia Power and Sail Squadron will be conducting training in the area of The Sarnia Yacht Club between the hours of 7:00pm and 9:00pm on Thursday 30 May 2013. The flares will be non-emergency white in colour.
Theft from Motor Vehicles
On June 1, 2013 at approximately 6 a.m., Sarnia Police responded to the area of Cathcart Blvd. and Colborne Road., regarding a male going through motor vehicles. The suspect lead officers in a foot pursuit in the residential area of Kim, Kemsley, Stonecrest, Ridgewood and Denmark Streets and Oak Acres park. As a result, an 18 year old male was arrested for the offences of Theft Under $5000 and Trespass by Night.
Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a blue or black duffle bag or backpack with blue lettering. that was dropped in the area and not recovered. The accused also dropped personal items in the chase. If anyone comes across any items on their property or has had their motor vehicle entered through the night in this area please contact the Sarnia Police Service with the information.
The public is reminded to ensure valuables are not left in motor vehicles and to lock car doors.
Update: No Charges In Fatal Bike Investigation
There will be no charges laid in the investigation involving the death of Denis Joseph Ross. He died November 18, 2011 at the intersection of Indian and London Roads in Sarnia. He was riding a bicycle when he came into collision with a transport truck. The Sarnia Police were assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police during the investigation.
Drug Activity for End of May 2013
On May 22, 2013 just after 4 PM, the Sarnia Police were assisting a social services agency in the 900 block of Confederation Street. They entered the residence attempting to locate a 26 year old woman when they observed marihuana and other drug paraphernalia. In total, 11 grams of marihuana was seized. The woman was later located, arrested and released on an Appearance Notice with a court date of July 15 when she will speak to a charge of Possession of Marihuana.
On May 27, 2013, around 4:45 PM, Sarnia Police were investigating a hit and run collision that had occurred near the area of London Line and Blackwell Side Road. An off duty Sarnia Police officer was the victim of the hit and run. The officer followed the suspects until other officers arrived. A vehicle was stopped on Mandaumin Road, north of London Line. The 23 year old female driver was arrested. A 33 year old male passenger was asked to step from the vehicle. He appeared incoherent and under the influence of an unknown substance. He had a pair of scissors in his pocket along with drug paraphernalia. Fentanyl patches were found in the car.
After further investigation, the man was properly identified and it was discovered he was wanted on an outstanding warrant as well as being on an Undertaking with a condition of not to possess drugs or paraphernalia. Because of his condition, he was taken by ambulance to hospital. The man is charged with Breach of Undertaking and Public Mischief. The woman driver is facing charges of Dangerous Driving, Failing to Remain, Possession of Fentanyl and Production of Fentanyl.
On May 29, around 5:25 PM, an officer stopped a vehicle on Exmouth Street. The 27 year old male driver was arrested as it was discovered his driver’s licence was under suspension for an unpaid fine. A search of the man revealed a gram of cocaine, two oxycontin tablets and a 11 mg capsule of hydromorphone. The man is being charged with Drive While Under Suspension and three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. The man was later released on an Appearance Notice. The man was also carrying over $1,500 in cash.
On May 29, the Sarnia Police Vice Branch executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a home in the 300 block of Stuart Street just before midnight. A 45 year old Sarnia man was arrested inside. Items seized during this search were Fentanyl patches, some cut in pieces. The Fentanyl patches were in various sizes and contained in different baggies. Also seized were 33 tablets of Zopiclone. The Fentanyl has a street value of about $2,375.00. The man was held for bail and remains in custody awaiting a court date. He is charged with Production of Fentanyl, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Fail to Comply with Undertaking.
Female Purse Thief
Sarnia Police are seeking the assistance of the public in attempting to identify a female who stole a purse from a business in the 600 block of Murphy Road on May 31, 2013 sometime between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM. The purse was brown in colour and contained paperwork and cash. The woman depicted in the photo attached is described as between 35 and 45 years old with darker coloured hair. She was wearing light coloured pants and top and sun glasses. Wilkesport Man Arrested for Child Porn
A 38 year old Wilkesport man was arrested yesterday by Sarnia Police on charges of Possession of Child Pornography. Robert James Douglas was released and will appear in court on July 23, 2013 to speak to the charge.
The investigation started on May 14, 2013 when a computer was seized from a local repair shop after being found to contain child pornography. Police commenced their investigation at that time and as a result, a complete search of the computer was done on May 29th and 30th on the strength of a search warrant issued by a Justice of the Peace.
Douglas was arrested at his home just before 2 PM. A subsequent search warrant was executed at his home but no further pornography was found. He was later released from police headquarters on a Promise to Appear with an Undertaking and he will appear in court on July 23, 2013.
Bright’s Grove Library Damage
Sarnia Police are once again advising residents of Bright’s Grove to report any suspicious activity they may see or hear in the area. Since April 28, police have received three complaints from the Bright’s Grove library about damage and broken windows.

Incidents from June 5, 2013
Yesterday afternoon around 4 PM, a Sarnia Police Traffic officer was operating a mobile radar unit when he spotted and registered a car doing 105 KPH in a 50 KPH zone, on Murphy Road, between London Road and Wellington Street. The 18 year old male driver from Sarnia was in his mother’s car. The car was towed; he was issued a summons and will go to court in July after being charged for Stunt Driving. The car will be impounded for seven days.
Last night around 8 PM, a 57 year old Sarnia man was arrested by Sarnia Police on Copeland Road after he was stopped for suspicion of impaired driving. He provided a sample of his breath into a roadside screening device and blew a “Fail”. He was taken to police headquarters where he registered breath samples over two times the legal limit. He was released later and will appear in court in July.
Around 9:20 AM, the Vice Branch executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence on Park Avenue in Sarnia. Five people were found inside; two people were released unconditionally but a 27 year old man and a 46 year old man along with a 34 year old female, all from Sarnia were held for investigation purposes. A syringe filled with liquid methamphetamine and 1.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine was seized. This carries a street value of about $365.00. All three were brought to police headquarters. The 46 year old man was held for bail as he was on a Recognizance of Bail. He will face three charges for breaching that recognizance.
The other two parties were later released on a Promise to Appear, charged with Possession of Methamphetamine. A 24 year old Leamington man showed up at the home during the police presence. There was an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was held for a bail hearing.
$13,829 Worth of Crystal Meth Seized
Sarnia Police Vice Branch executed another Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant last night around 10:30 PM in the 100 block of George Street. Upon entry into the residence, three people were arrested; a 38 year old male, and two females, aged 33 and 54, all from Sarnia.
Around 11 PM, two individuals, a 40 year old man and a 32 year old woman, arrived at the location and were promptly arrested. These two people were transported to police headquarters and remain in custody this morning awaiting bail hearings. They face charges of Possession of Crystal Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking. The female faces two charges of Breach of Probation. They are both from Sarnia.
The 54 year old female found inside upon entry into the residence is also facing a charge of Possession of Crystal Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking and Breach of Probation. She was later released and will appear in court in July.
The total amount of crystal methamphetamine that was seized was almost 100 grams or 3.53 ounces which carries a street value of over $13,800.
Police Looking for Hit and Run Truck
Sarnia Police are looking for a tan or beige coloured pick-up truck that was involved in a three vehicle collision this morning around 11:30 AM at the intersection of Maria and Russell Streets in Sarnia. The two vehicles that did stay at the crash scene both had to be towed due to damage. The two drivers of these cars were not injured. They were ages 59 and 72 and were both from Sarnia.
The fleeing truck left southbound on Russell Street and will have moderate to extensive damage on the front left portion of it. Smashing Window Weekend
Sarnia Police investigated two separate incidents over the weekend where they arrested two people at two different locations for smashing windows.
In the first incident on June 8 shortly before 1 AM, police were called to Fairview Crescent regarding a male who was smashing the windows out of a pick truck. Police arrived and located a 32 year old Sarnia man near the truck. He appeared intoxicated and was arrested. He was belligerent. Police spoke to witnesses who identified the man and stated what had happened earlier. Police located a baseball bat nearby. A 2004 Chevrolet pick-up was towed from the scene. He is charged with Mischief Over $5,000.
In the second incident, on June 9, around 1:30 AM, Sarnia Police were called to attend the 100 block of Queen Street regarding a woman smashing the window in an apartment building. Police arrived and spoke to witnesses who indicated a 35 year old woman who lived in the building had smashed the glass out of a door with a wooden cane. Police observed the damage. They attended her apartment and received no answer. A warrant is requested for her arrest on charges of Mischief Over $5,000 and Breach of Probation.
