Broadcast time: 1:58pm

Date: March 30, 2015

The Sarnia Police Service Court Security Branch would like to remind the public that when they attend the Lambton County Court House they should please avoid bringing in articles that could possibly be used as weapons. This could be anything from scissors, nail files, Swiss Army knives, screw drivers, etc.

Upon entering the court house members of the public will be screened through a metal detector and by a court security officer. Anything deemed to be a security risk will be confiscated before entry into the court house is allowed. This is done for obvious safety reasons.

Over the course of a year the Court Security Officers have seized over 100’s of items including those mentioned above along with pieces of a lawn mower blade, exacto knives, syringes, cap guns, lighters that resemble small caliber handguns and even people attempting to bring beer into the building.

The photos below depict seized items over the last year. This is approximately 10 percent of the items found that were prohibited. Whenever possible, security personnel will allow people to secure items in their vehicles. Just keep in mind that on busy days this will slow down entry for all into the courts and thus security staff may limit this. They are asking the public’s co-operation in ensuring that people avoid bringing such items in.
