Broadcast time: 9:03 am

Date: January 19, 2015

On January 18, 2015 at about 2:00 am, a member of the Sarnia Police Service COPPS unit observed a 25 year old man known to police, as he was on current charges before the courts, in the 800 block of Everest St. in the City of Sarnia.

As the officer approached, the man attempted to flee as he was being told he was under investigation for a breach of his recognizance. At this time a struggle ensued between the officer and the man. The man was able to rip the radio off the officer’s person just after he attempted to contact other constables for assistance.

As the two struggled the officer continued to advise the man to stop resisting but to no avail. Next the officer also attempted to taser the man but this too was only temporarily successful.

The constable was able to hold onto the man long enough until other officers arrived to assist him and place him under arrest.

A subsequent search of the man located approximately 91 grams of crystal methamphetamine as part of the man’s property with an approximate street value of $13,680. Also located was $465.00 in cash.

The 25 year old man was charged with Breaching his Recognizance, Assault Police, Possession of Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and for Possession of Schedule II Substance. The man will be held for a bail hearing this morning, January 19, 2015.
