Sarnia Police Criminal Investigation Branch arrested a 52 year old Sarnia man who received money for a feigned illness.
In 2012 the accused, Robert HAMMOND, told friends he had terminal cancer. After hearing this tragic news these friends held a charity benefit to assist Hammond financially with cost associated with cancer treatments. The event was held at a local bar and food for the event as well as prizes were donated to help raise money. The event attracted between thirty and fifty people who paid a cover charge for the benefit. Over $2000.00 was raised for the purpose of financially assisting the accused during his battle with cancer.
There is no evidence Hammond has cancer or ever been diagnosed with cancer. The accused was arrested on Tuesday June 24 ,2014 and charged with Fraud Under $5000.00.
