On December 16, 2022, at approximately 5:45 PM, Sarnia Police responded to a collision that occurred at the corner of Fanshawe Drive and Finch Drive. Upon arrival officers observed that one of the vehicles had been struck from the rear by a second vehicle and that the second vehicle had caught on fire, The Sarnia Fire Department had attended the scene to extinguish the fire.
As officers dealt with the investigation they spoke to the driver of the vehicle that caught on fire and formed grounds to arrest the driver for impaired operation by alcohol.
The driver was taken into custody and transported back to Sarnia Police Headquarters where samples of breath were taken by a Breath Technician into an Intoxilyzer instrument. As a result of the testing it is alleged that the driver was twice over the legal limit.
The accused in this matter, Dillon James Rundle, 28 years of age, of Petrolia, now faces one count of operation of a conveyance while impaired by alcohol and one count of having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
Rundle’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
In this incident the collision did not result in any serious injuries but we wish to remind drivers that drinking and driving can end in catastrophic results with both property damage and loss of life.
Please remember, if you choose to drink do not drive. Take a cab, Uber, or have someone sober drive you. Life is too precious.
