Manslaughter Charges Laid As a Result of Altercation

On August 28, 2022, the accused and the victim, whom were known to each other, were at a gathering in the 100 block of Maness Court. At some point in the evening an argument broke out between the two which later escalated into a physical altercation requiring bystanders to break up the fight.

Due to the altercation the victim in this matter remained unconscious and sustained significant injuries. Sarnia Police and Lambton Paramedics attended the scene to render assistance and the victim was ultimately transported to hospital.

The accused was taken into custody later that night and charged with aggravated assault.

The victim, Dalton Eugene Bressette, 26 years of age, of Sarnia, was later transferred to London Health Science Centre, University Hospital campus, in critical condition. Despite all the medical efforts made Dalton Bressette passed away on September 4, 2022, as a result of the sustained injuries.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Branch continued their investigation into incident and as a result, the accused, Brandon Gilbert, 23 years of age, was re-arrested on September 15, 2022, and was charged with one count of manslaughter.

Brandon Gilbert remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
