On August the 5, 2022, at approximately 9:25 PM, the Sarnia Police Service received a call initially regarding unwanted people in a residence on Niagara Crescent, in the City of Sarnia. When officers arrived and spoke to the complainant, outside the residence, officers were able to determine that complainant had been threatened and that the suspects were in possession of a firearm.
A male and a female accused, that were in the residence, exited without incident and were taken into custody. The male was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and a knife that opened with centrifugal force (a “flick knife”), which is a prohibited weapon.
A third party remained within the residence refusing to exit at first but once realizing that the Sarnia Police Emergency Response Team was attending made his way out and was taken into custody without incident. This person was determined to be under the age of 18 and thus will not be identified in accordance to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
A warrant to search the residence was requested and granted and as a result an unmarked firearm was located (also known as a “Ghost Gun”). These guns are manufactured by individuals by using 3D printers and machine shops to produce parts. They are then assembled and used as crime guns to instill fear or physically harm others just as any other commercially manufactured firearm could. These guns are not traceable as they were not legitimately manufactured and do not have a serial number.
As a result of this investigation three people have been charged accordingly:
-
Mohammed WARDE, 39 years of age, of Sarnia, for:
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a Schedule One Substance
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Four counts of possession of a firearm, ammunition, or a weapon contrary to a prohibition order
- Two counts of breach of probation
-
Three counts of failing to comply with a release order
-
Young offender, from Oshawa, for
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
-
Failing to comply with a release order
-
Sidney Ann CAMPEAU, 21 years of age, of Sarnia, for:
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm
All three were held pending a bail hearing.
This is the second “Ghost Gun” that has been located in our community over the past month (last incident July 11, 2022, gun found). These types of guns have been a growing concern across the nation.
We are asking anyone who is aware of these types of guns or any illegally held guns to contact the police at 519- 344-8861, extension 0.
If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
