On June 11, 2022, at approximately 11:20 PM, officers were dispatched to Centennial Park in the area of an ongoing concert. Information received was regarding a male with two knives in hand. In addition, he was walking around, swinging the knives at trees while there were crowds of people in the area.
At one point, it is alleged that the suspect turned towards an individual and threatened to kill him with the knives.
Fortunately, officers attended the area before the incident could escalate and were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody without any further incident. Both knives were recovered and described as kitchen knives.
As a result of the investigation, the accused, Paul Smith Wytka, 38 years of age, of Sarnia, faces:
- One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Assault with a weapon
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
The accused was held for a bail hearing and has been since released by the courts.
