On June 7, 2022 Sarnia Police were alerted to a gas drive off at a business on London Line in the City of Sarnia. This incident was captured on video and the male involved was known to police and suspected of operating a stolen vehicle.
A short time later, at 10:30 a.m., Sarnia police received a 911 call regarding a dispute between two male parties. One of the males was seen retrieving what appeared to be a black hand gun from his vehicle. He then began walking towards the other male at the scene. The vehicle involved matched the description of the gas drive off that had occurred earlier the same day.
Just after 11:00 a.m. Sarnia Police officers responded to another disturbance where witnesses reported seeing a male party with a bat and a handgun. Video surveillance showed a male party who matched the description of the person involved in the above incidents brandish what appeared to be a black handgun and point it at the camera in a threatening manner. The involved male fled the scene prior to police arrival.
At approximately 11:56 a.m. Sarnia police officers located the male party and performed a high risk arrest where the male was taken into custody without incident. Upon arrest the vehicle in question was confirmed stolen and the handgun was located in the vehicle and determined to be a plastic air soft type handgun. The male was also found to be in possession of cocaine and stolen identification.
As a result, 33-year-old Corey Devin Maness of Sarnia was charged with assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous, pointing a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, possess a concealed weapon, theft under $5000, possession of a controlled substance, breach of probation, drive while prohibited and two counts of identity theft. He has since been remanded into custody with a future court date.
