Date: January 17, 2022

On January 17, 2022, at approximately 12:05 AM, a male suspect entered the Emergency Department at Bluewater Health Sarnia. The male was highly agitated and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

The male began to argue with Triage staff at which point Bluewater Health Security responded immediately to the disturbance. As the security staff approached the suspect the male ran outside through the main doors. To ensure that the man didn’t return or cause any further problems security and other staff exited outside to see if he had left the area.

Once outside the male suspect turned towards staff and pulled out what appeared to be a handgun. The male pointed the gun at security and staff, lunging forward at them. Staff immediately ran inside and took cover while the suspect followed them still pointing the firearm and threatening them. The male entered the emergency room area with the gun raised and caused further panic among those present. People took cover, concerned for their lives.

Bluewater Security had already contacted the Sarnia Police Service and officers immediately flooded the area. The male suspect had left the hospital but fortunately officers were able to locate him beside a building in the 200 block of Durand Street. As officers approached the suspect they observed what appeared to be a handgun on the ground by the suspect. Officers were able to arrest the individual with no further incident.

A search of the male located approximately 37 grams of crystal methamphetamine. The handgun that was retrieved by officers was determined to be a BB hand gun that was a replica of a real gun.

Fortunately, aside from the fear caused, no one sustained any physical injuries.

The accused, Bradley Douglas Kelly, 22 years of age, of Sarnia faces the following charges:

  1. Four counts of assault with a weapon
  2. Four counts of use of a weapon while committing an offence
  3. Four counts of pointing a firearm
  4. Four counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  5. Four counts of breach of probation
  6. Two counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to a Prohibition Order
  7. One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  8. One count of possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking

Kelly remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
