A 41 year old Sarnia man remains in custody after being arrested on November 18 around 5:30 PM. The man was at his mother’s residence on Durand Street. He had stolen cash from her earlier the previous week. The man returned to her home on November 18 and wanted more money. She would not give it to him. The man became enraged. The woman picked up the phone to call 911 and left the phone off the hook.
The man went to the kitchen and took two knives, one in each hand. He threatened his mother with death. The police arrived and the man instructed his mother not to let the police in. Police could hear them inside along with someone unlocking the door and then locking it again. Police were able to obtain a key and enter the apartment.
The man ran for the balcony. He straddled the railing, threatening to jump. He was eventually convinced to stop and surrendered himself to the police. He was arrested. He was taken to hospital for assessment, released and taken to police headquarter to await a bail hearing. He faces numerous charges, including Breach of Probation, Theft Under $5,000, Assault with a Weapon, Utter Threats to Cause Death, Forcible Confinement and Weapons Dangerous to the Public Peace.
