On April 22, 2021, at approximately 3:30 AM, two suspects attended an address in the 700 block of Devine Street where they able were able to convince the victim to allow them access to his residence. The victim did not know who the two suspects were.
According to allegations, the two suspects began taking property that belonged to the victim and demanding that the victim e-transfer them money as both suspects threatened the victim with knives.
Next the two suspects forced the victim to walk to a local bank to draw money out. Fortunately, the victim was able to dial 911 while the phone was in his pocket and continued to speak out loud allowing dispatchers to determine what was happening and send police.
The suspects continued to threaten the victim on their way to the bank but fortunately officers arrived on scene and found all involved present. The two suspects were taken into custody without incident and knives were retrieved form their persons. The victim was not injured.
As a result of the robbery, Randy Richard Beatty, 40 years of age, of Sarnia, and Brandon Alan Lavoie, 27 years of age, of Sarnia face the following charges, each:
One count of break and enter
One count of forcible confinement
One count of uttering threats to cause death
One count of robbery
One count of assault with a weapon
One count of weapons dangerous
Both accused remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
