As part of The Sarnia Police Service’s COPPS Unit ongoing endeavor to reduce crime and drugs in the community observations were being made at a building complex in the 900 block of Wellington Street regarding ongoing complaints of drug activities.
On April 10, 2021, the officer made note of a vehicle being driven by suspected drug traffickers and upon further investigation the vehicle was determined to have been reported stolen on April 5, 2021, from the Waterloo Region.
At approximately 1:35 AM the officer observed a male and a female enter the vehicle at which point the COPPS Unit officer used the vehicle he was driving to prevent the vehicle from pulling out and was able to arrest the two suspects without incident for possession of the stolen vehicle.
Once the two suspects were safely taken into custody the officer conducted a search of the vehicle and located approximately 29 grams of what is believe to be red coloured fentanyl, approximately 25 grams of methamphetamine, and 1.2 grams of cocaine. Also located was a sword with a 12-inch blade in the driver’s side door of the motor vehicle which could be easily accessed by the driver.
The following individuals were charged accordingly:
Je Vang, male, 48 years of age, of Kitchener, faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, and two counts of failing to attend court.
Thao Cha, female, 54 years of age, of Kitchener, faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
Both remain in custody pending a bail hearing.
