On April 9, 2021, at approximately 9:30 PM, the Sarnia Police Service received a report of two gunshots in the 200 block of Vidal Street South.
When officers attended the area the sound of another shot was heard by the officers present and they were able to determine the residence from which the shots were coming from.
There the officers observed two males and a female in the backyard of the residence and one of the males was observed raising his arm into the air and discharging what appeared to be a handgun. The loud, distinct sound of a handgun was heard and a muzzle flash was observed.
Officers waited for a safe opportunity to make contact with the suspects. Commands were issued to have the suspects come to the police. One of the males and the female were taken into custody without incident.
The second male, who was initially observed with the gun, was not being compliant and actually returned inside the house when ordered to come to police. Attempts were made to call the suspect out via PA system. Eventually, at 11:00 PM, the suspect exited the residence and finally followed orders. He was ultimately taken into custody without any further incident.
As the investigation continued officers were able to recover a 9mm blank revolver (start pistol) along with live and spent cartridges. Also located were two switch blade style knives, a butterfly knife, and a push dagger.
The accused in this matter, Bryce Jason Carpentier-Fernandes, 24 years of age, of Sarnia, was charged with one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and four counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon.
The other two suspects were ultimately released unconditionally.
Carpentier-Fernandes first court date will be on June 15, 2021, at 9:30 AM, in Sarnia, at the Sarnia Lambton Court House located at 700 Christina Street North.
