Sarnia Police were involved in a high speed pursuit on Sunday morning around 2 AM in the area of Murphy and London Roads. An observant officer spotted a pickup truck initially in the area of Confederation Street and Trudeau Drive a short time earlier. The truck was stopped in a thru lane on westbound Confederation. The truck proceeded and the officer detected the truck appeared to have steam or smoke coming from its hood. The windows were tinted but the officer could see two individuals in the truck. The truck began to travel northbound on Murphy at a higher rate of speed.
It was learned that the truck was stolen. The truck continued to proceed northbound on Murphy Road. The roof lights were activated on the cruiser and the truck stopped near London Road. The officer exited the cruiser but the truck proceeded northbound, squealing the tires. The driver continued thru the intersection. The truck entered the Wiltshire subdivision. The pursuit was terminated once the officer lost sight of the truck. Patrols were made in the area by other officers. A strong smell of burning rubber was detected by all.
The truck was spotted by another officer in a nearby park. An occupant was observed to exit the truck and run from it into a nearby wooded area. The truck was towed. The investigation continues.
