On November 25, 2020, at approximately 7:40 PM, Sarnia Police responded to a motor vehicle that had apparently lost control and left the road striking a hydro pole in the 1400 block of Lakeshore Road. The incident caused the pole to dislodge and sparks were observed coming from the lines. This in turn caused a power outage in the area.
Along with the driver, there were two other passengers in the vehicle but fortunately no one sustained any serious injuries.
The officer made the determination to demand a sample of breath into a road side screening device from the driver. The device indicated that the driver failed the test at which point he was taken into custody.
The accused was transported back to the station where he supplied a sample of breath into an Intoxilyzer Instrument that was operated by a qualified breath technician. The accused again failed the test.
The accused, Andrew Croteau, 19 years of age, of Sarnia, has been charged with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus mg and impaired operation. He has since been released on an undertaking with a court date of January 12, 2021, at 9:30 AM, at the Sarnia Court House.
