On November 3, 2020, at approximately 4:20 AM, Sarnia Fire, along with the Sarnia Police Service, responded to two active structure fires on Lanark Court.
Upon arrival, it was observed that two separate townhouses were on fire. The fire set to one of the townhouses caused extensive damage to adjacent townhouses as well.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office determined that the fires were deemed to be arson.
The Sarnia Police Service Investigation Branch continued the investigation and were able to determine who the accused was.
On November 9, 2020, Nathan Franklin Gardiner, 29 years of age, of no fixed address, was taken into custody without incident. Gardiner is facing the following charges:
- Two counts of arson with disregard for human life
- Two counts of arson (damage to property)
- Possession of incendiary material
- Two counts of mischief endangering life
- Two counts of mischief over $5000.00
- Intent to destroy or damage property by placing or throwing an explosive substance
Gardiner remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
