Broadcast time: 8:09 AM

Date: September 14, 2020

Recently the City of Sarnia has erected a Yield to Bus sign on Murphy Road just to the south of the bus hub beside the Superstore. The intention of this sign is to remind drivers that when a City transit bus signals to enter traffic you are required to yield and allow that bus to enter traffic.

We would like to remind the public that under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario that when a transit bus signals to enter back into the lane of travel you are required to yield for the bus. City transit buses currently have signs indicating that vehicles are to yield right of way for the bus to enter the lane from a bus bay. Failing to do so runs the potential for a driver to be fined $110.00. It must also be understood that the bus driver must enter the flow of traffic in a reasonable manner to allow for traffic the time to yield safely.

By following this law, it will allow for the safe and efficient flow of traffic
