Broadcast time: 8:05 AM

Date: September 6, 2013

A Sarnia Police COPPS Branch officer spotted a car travelling southbound on Russell Street near Devine Street early this morning, just after midnight. The car had swerved towards the curb and when the officer pulled in behind the vehicle, he observed the front left tire was flat and a strong smell of burning rubber could be detected. The car was stopped near Confederation Street. The male driver had difficulty rolling down the driver’s window, struggling to find the switch. He eventually opened the door and spoke to the officer. The undeniable smell of alcohol was present.

The 47 year old Sarnia man admitted to consuming some beer. A roadside screening device was brought to the scene. After numerous attempts to provide a suitable sample of his breath, a “Fail” was registered. He was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters where he provided a sample of his breath into an Intoxilyzer. He was later released on a Promise to Appear and will make his first court appearance October 8, 2013.
