Thanks to the public’s assistance, a suspect has been arrested in relation to the robberies which occurred on January 16 and January 19, 2020, where two elderly females had purses stolen from them during daylight hours in the area of Maria Street, Russell Street North, and London Road.
During the first incident the elderly female fell to the ground and sustained minor injuries that required medical treatment. Fortunately, the second victim did not sustain any injuries. Due to the photo released, from the surveillance camera, the suspect was identified as Robert Leonard Charboneau, 42 years of age, of Sarnia.
On January 21, 2020, at approximately 11:25 AM, while detectives were still gathering evidence regarding the robberies involving Charboneau, officers responded to a break and enter in the 100 block of Conestoga Drive. The resident heard someone inside their home and when she attended a rear room she was confronted by a male who ended up leaving the home without incident.
Officers had immediately attended the area and located the suspect for the break and enter. It was determined that this suspect was the same person wanted for the robberies of the purses, Charbonneau.
Charboneau was taken into custody without incident and faces the following charges:
- Two counts of robbery with violence.
- Three counts of breach of probation.
- One count of break and enter.
Charboneau has been held for a bail hearing.
