Sarnia Police were called to a home in the 1200 block of Lakeshore Road around 1 AM on Monday August 5, 2013 in regards to an assault. A birthday party got a bit too noisy for a 27 year old neighbor. He approached a backyard fence and spoke to a 30 year old man from Deep River, Ontario who was at the party. A verbal dispute ensued when the 27 year old started swearing and became belligerent and aggressive with guests. The 30 year old guest attempted to reason with the man, but he became wary when the 27 year old put his hand in his pocket in a suspicious manner. Assurances were made the noise for the party would quell.
This was not enough for the neighbor. He pulled a hammer from his pocket and swung it at the 30 year old man in front of several people. The man had stepped back just in time. Police were called. The witnesses described the accused and he was located hiding in a bush a short distance away. He was sweating and immediately began apologizing for his actions. He then informed police he had a knife in his pocket. A steak knife with a 6 inch blade was found in his pocket.
The man was arrested a later released on a Promise to Appear. He is facing charges of Assault with a Weapon and Possession of Weapons Dangerous to the Public Police. No one was hurt during the altercation.
