A 38 year old male from Sarnia has been arrested and charged with two counts of Robbery.

On November 29th, 2019, at approximately 4:30am, the accused in this matter attended a coffee shop in the 1200 block of London Road. He then approached the counter and demanded the employee give him all the money in the register. The accused became upset when the employee refused his demand and motioned as if he had a knife in his pocket. The male took a closed fist swing at the employee, but missed as the employee backed up. He then pushed the register and other items on the counter towards the employee in an aggressive manner before leaving westbound on London Road.

At approximately 5am, this same male entered the Petro Canada station on Indian Road North. At this time he went behind the counter and assaulted the employee, demanding him to empty the register. The employee gave him the money while the male continued to assault him. The accused eventually left the gas station on foot in a southbound direction.

At approximately 5:30am, the accused was located and arrested while walking in the area of Capel Street and Admiral Avenue.

Matthew Floyd Bird was charged with Robbery with Intent and Robbery with Violence. He was held for a Bail Hearing this morning.
