Sarnia Police charged their 35th impaired driver of 2013. On July 23, 2013 around 11:40 PM, police observed a vehicle eastbound on Wellington Street at Brock Street. The vehicle was weaving in its lane and changing speeds from very low to the posted speed of 50 KPH. The vehicle stopped at the red light at Mitton Street. The vehicle continued eastbound on the green light. The truck was stopped at MacKenzie Street after the cruiser activated the emergency equipment.
The music in the truck was loud. The driver was a 49 year old Sarnia man. A strong odour of alcohol came from the driver and he was the only occupant. The driver kept putting his head on the steering wheel. He was asked to get out; he did, but needed to lean on his vehicle for support. He was arrested. After going to police headquarters and completing a breathalyzer, his readings indicated he was just under 3 times the legal limit. He was released once sober, charged with Impaired Operation and Drive with Over 80 MG. He will appear in court on August 13.
