Broadcast time: 11:45 AM

Date: July 18, 2013

On July 17, 2013, around noontime, an officer on patrol in the Rapid Parkway area was flagged down by someone who indicated his 77 year old mother was missing from her home near Modeland and Blackwell Roads. The woman had gone for a walk around 10:30 AM and had not yet returned. Family had been attempting to locate her when the officer was notified.

Given the weather conditions, the woman’s age and the length of time she had been gone, Sarnia Police commenced looking for her as well and preparing to activate their Missing Persons procedure to look for her. The Criminal Investigations Branch was notified and the Emergency Response Team paged out. The Canine Unit of the O.P.P. was also paged. The media release, along with a picture of her, was being prepared.

Other officers that had already commenced searching and had notified citizens on foot in the area to advise them if they spotted her. At approximately 12:30 PM, a police team had gathered at the home of the missing woman. At approximately 1:15 PM, one of those citizens in the area who had been advised by the police earlier notified them that he spotted her. The woman was located seated on a bench on the Howard Watson Trail, about 300 meters east of Modeland Road. The paramedics were called as a precaution. The woman was found to be OK and taken back to her home.

Sarnia Police would like to thank all citizens who were involved in this incident.
