Broadcast time: 12:35 pm

Date: April 1, 2019

On March 29, 2019, at approximately 10:05 am, a vehicle travelling westbound, on Confederation Street in the area of Lansdowne Avenue began to drift into the eastbound lanes approaching head-on traffic. The passenger in the vehicle had to turn the steering wheel to avoid striking an oncoming dump truck as it appeared that the driver was in some form of medical distress.

The vehicle left the south side of Confederation Street into a parking lot driveway and then struck a curb and continued to travel southwest. Again the passenger was able assist by forcing the transmission lever, in the centre console, into park and avoiding any further issues by bringing the vehicle to a stop.

The driver was transported to hospital by Lambton EMS paramedics where it was determined that he did not sustain any injuries. The passenger in the vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

A member of the Sarnia Police Service Traffic Branch continued the investigation and formed reasonable grounds to believe that driver was actually under the influence of drugs while driving and at approximately 12:00 pm the accused was arrested.

The accused was transported back to the station, once released from hospital, where he was tested by a Drug Recognition Examiner. Upon completion of the testing it was determined that the accused was under the influence of drugs and in turn Colton James Bond, 23 years of age, was charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs.
