Sometime between the month of December of 2018 and January of 2019, an individual working for a local cleaning company stole a number of blank cheques from the office of a business he was cleaning at. The office was closed at time when the cleaning company and the suspect were present. Also taken at the time was a camera.
Beginning at the end of January the suspect began writing a number of cheques to himself, each valued at over a thousand dollars. He would deposit the cheque into his account and then cash it. The suspect was successful in cashing four cheques before the business and bank became aware of the fraudulent transactions by January 29, 2019. The suspect by this time had cashed over $6000.
The suspect continued his crime spree up until March 6, 2019, but fortunately all the cheques had since been cancelled.
As detectives from the Sarnia Police Service Criminal investigation branch investigated the matter they were able to determine who the suspect was.
On March 16, 2019 the accused was finally located and arrested by a member of the Sarnia Police Service COPPS Unit. Upon his arrest other cheques were also located on his person.
The accused, Bradley Michael Furtah, 30 years of age, faces 42 criminal charges ranging from theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime, fraud, and possession of forged documents.
Furtah is currently under investigation for possible other thefts and frauds that he has alleged to have committed.
