On October 10, 2018, at approximately 11:00 am, the Sarnia Police Service was contacted by a concerned citizen that had observed a male running from a local retailer’s store on Quinn Drive with a cart full of products. The witness was able to advise the police the direction of travel and a description of the suspect allowing the officer the ability to locate the suspect. According to information received, the suspect had hidden the items in a back pack and was walking away from the area.
The officer, due to the information received from the witness, was able to form reasonable grounds to arrest the suspect for theft under $5000 and was later also charged with breach of probation.
During the arrest, the accused, Robert Ayotte, 33 years of age, became uncooperative with police which was observed by another witness. Since the officer was alone at the time the witness stopped to render the officer assistance.
The Sarnia Police would like to thank these two citizens for their involvement and assistance in this matter. It is reassuring, as a police officer, when the public takes a role in assisting the police and by doing so it makes our community safer.
