On August 9, 2017, members of the Sarnia Police Service responded to a sudden death in 700 block of Indian Road. A 38 year old male was pronounced dead at the hospital due to an overdose on drugs.
The Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. On August 11, 2017, a search warrant was executed in the 800 block of Devine Street in relation to the death. Secondary to the search a small quantity of crack cocaine was found in the residence and Karen Ebel-Savage, 57 years of age, was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.
Since this date further evidence has been obtained resulting in the arrest of Ebel-Savage on March 13, 2018. She has now been also charged with manslaughter.
Ebel-Savage attended her bail hearing this morning and has since been released.
