Date: February 28, 2018

On February 10, 2018, at approximately 11:40 pm, members of the Sarnia Police Service responded to what was initially believed to be a break and enter to a home located on Mayfair Drive in the City of Sarnia. As the investigation continued it was determined that a 76 year old female was confronted by an intruder who tied her to a chair and proceeded to rummage through the house for items to steal. The victim was able to slip out of her restraints and headed to a neighbor, unharmed, to call the police. The suspect left the home prior to police arriving by stealing the victim’s car which was later recovered.

As the investigation continued members of the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch were able to determine that the suspect was John Donald Goodall, 29 years of age, of Sarnia. A warrant was requested for his arrest.

On February 23, 2018, a member of the Sarnia Police Service COPPS Unit observed a male, whom he believed to be the wanted party, as he entered a variety store on Confederation Street. The officer followed the suspect into the store and was able to positively identify Goodall and placed him under arrest without incident.

Goodall remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing. Goodall faces the following charges:

  1. Assault
  2. Break and Enter to a Dwelling House
  3. Breach of Recognizance
  4. Forcible Confinement
  5. Possession of Break and Enter Instruments
