On January 22, 2018, an introductory news release, by the Sarnia Police Service, was forwarded to the public regarding a robbery that had taken place in the area of Mitton Street and Wellington Street in the City of Sarnia. The robbery took place on Saturday, January 20, at approximately 8:30 pm.
Four victims were walking eastbound on Wellington Street from Mitton Street when they decided to head southbound through Mackenzie Lane Park. As the group had stopped for a moment they observed an unknown person come towards them also travelling south through the park.
They described the male as being 5’10”, skinny build, believed to be Caucasian, wearing a grey hoodie, dark baggie pants, beat up old shoes, a black ski mask with a black toque, and a red bandana pulled up above the lower part of his face. The suspect pulled up his top to reveal a revolver in his waistband. He then pulled the gun out of his waist band and directed it at the four individuals demanding their property.
The group of four made a quick decision and attempted to split up and run away from the suspect. The suspect did chase down 2 of the victims and robbed them of some articles of clothing and money.
From there the suspect left the area and later that night the police were contacted to investigate the matter.
At this time the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch has taken over the investigation.
