On November 6, 2017, the Sarnia Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Investigation Unit entered into an online investigation. A detective, from the Sarnia Police ICE, was able to gather evidence that a suspect from the City of Sarnia was distributing suspected child pornography video files via the internet and thus was also in possession of these files.
Due to all of the evidence collected the detective was able to request a warrant to search the suspect’s residence located in central Sarnia.
On January 18, 2018, at approximately 5:00 pm, the warrant was executed at the residence where the suspect was present. The suspect was taken into custody and several electronic devices were seized during the warrant.
A 35 year old male from Sarnia was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of possession for the purpose of distribution or sale of child pornography. The accused has subsequently been released from custody and is to attend court for his first appearance on February 6, 2018.
From all the information and evidence gathered through the investigation there appears to be no local victims involved in this matter.
The Sarnia Police ICE Unit is a partner of Ontario’s Provincial Strategy to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet. This project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community safety and Correctional Services.
