Break and Enter Suspect Faces Multiple Charges

On January 8, 2018, at approximately 2:30 am, officers from the Sarnia Police Service were dispatched to an address in the 100 block of Cecil Street in the City of Sarnia regarding a break and enter in progress that was called in by an elderly couple.

The couple was in bed and noticed a light on in the kitchen and got up to investigate what was going on. When the elderly male occupant arrived in the kitchen he was confronted by the suspect standing in the kitchen. The suspect told the elderly man that he was a police officer and that he was investigating a break and enter into the home. The encounter lasted a short time as the suspect was able to flee out the back door after grabbing the victim’s wallet. The officers that attended the scene were able to track the suspect’s route of travel to a local coffee shop in the area but the suspect had already left the area. Other evidence was also located.

As the investigation continued officers from the Criminal Investigation Branch were able to retrieve surveillance video from earlier that morning and were able to determine who the suspect was. At approximately 4:00pm, on January 9, 2018, the accused was arrested for the criminal charges of break and enter, robbery, personating a peace officer, and Breach of Probation.

The accused, Ian Lindsay, 24 years of age, of Sarnia, remains in custody pending his bail hearing.
