Broadcast time: 8:50 am

Date: December 15, 2017

On Wednesday, December 13, 2017, shortly before 3:00 pm, members of the Sarnia Police Service COPPS Unit conducted a traffic stop on Durand Street, in the City of Sarnia. The traffic stop was conducted due to the fact that a query of a motor vehicle’s license plate came back indicating that the owner’s driver’s license had been suspended.

A 39 year old female passenger in the motor vehicle was observed to openly have drug paraphernalia sitting at her feet as she sat in the vehicle. As the investigation continued the 39 year old female was also found to be in possession of a syringe that contained what is suspected to be Dilaudid.

The driver of the motor vehicle, a 41 year old female, was confirmed to be a suspended driver and a subsequent investigation located a syringe also believed to contain Dilaudid.

Both females, who are from Manitoulin Island, were taken into custody.

The 39 year old passenger was charged with possession of a controlled substance and 2 counts of breaching her recognizance. The 41 year old female driver was charged with possession of a controlled substance, breach of recognizance, and driving while suspended.

Both were held for a bail hearing and subsequently released from court. They are scheduled for their first appearance in January of 2018 on different dates.
