On February 1, 2017, the CIBC located on Front Street and Lochiel Street was robbed by a female wearing a disguise. The female who entered and robbed the bank was identified as 37 year old Rene Smith of no fixed address from Sarnia. She was subsequently arrested after a warrant was executed at motel room on London Line later that same day.
On February 4, 2017, members of the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch conducted a warrant in the 400 block of Greenfield Street, in the Town of Petrolia. During the warrant officers arrested a second person named Deborah Benusik who is currently 61 years of age. During the search a quantity of cash was located that was determined to be from the bank robbery along with a small amount of methamphetamine.
Both suspects are in custody and are awaiting their bail hearings.
