On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at approximately 4:20 pm, a female entered the CIBC located at Lochiel Street and Front Street in the City of Sarnia. The female was wearing a dark black hoodie zipped up to disguise her face. The suspect handed a note over to a teller threatening to shoot her if money was not handed over. No weapon was ever observed. Upon receiving the money, the suspect left the building on foot.
As the investigation evolved, officers were able to determine that the suspect got into a taxi and was dropped off at a motel located on London Line in the City of Sarnia. Officers secured the area around the room where the suspect was staying and at approximately 8:30 pm, the accused was taken into custody. At first, the suspect gave a false name but later officers were able to determine her true identity.
Lindsay Rene Smith, 37 years of age, of no fixed address, currently faces charges for:
- Two counts of breach of probation
- Robbery with threats of violence
- Disguise with intent
- Assault with a weapon
- Uttering threats to cause bodily harm
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Public mischief
Smith remains in custody pending the results of her bail hearing. Members of the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch continue to investigate the crime.
